Good morning everyone and happy January to you. Baby it sure has been cold outside! I have not been outside unless I have no other choice. There have been many of those, but at least I am not walking in it all day long. Last week due to the nasty weather one basketball game and one wrestling meet were rescheduled. The basketball game was anyway. This Friday, tomorrow, January 13, the basketball boys will play in Crawford at 3 p.m. I was at the school last Friday and watched part of the girls...

Happy New Year! May this year bring you a sense of peace in a chaotic world, and a life situation where your joy can not be taken. Maybe temporarily disrupted, but no more than that! We had a nice break here at home over the past two weeks and were kinda/sorta ready for the second semester of school. The teaching staff returned on Monday, January 2nd. and the students the following day. As usual there are sporting events lined up a plenty, starting today Thursday, January 5th the high school wre...

Good morning everyone! Here is hoping that you had a terrific Christmas. It was especially fun at our house because of one particular three-year-old and the way he perceives his world. Some very interesting conversations are held with that child, believe me. We walked to the mailbox Saturday and I had to have him explain to me why he stopped stock still and made slashing jabs in the air. Well, he was killing zombies. Who but grandma would not know that without asking? The weather was still nice...

Good morning to all of you, Banner County and friends near and far. It is a beautiful crisp, morning with skies almost perfectly blue, a few fluffly clouds are hanging about and so far the wind is not blowing. Yesterday was the shortest day of the year with a total of 9 hours, and 21 minutes of daylight. Not enough my friends, simply not enough. However, looking on the bright side, now that we have the official first day of winter over and done with, we can carry on with it and get it over...

Good morning, and a bitter cold December day awaits, getting colder as the week wears on. Not much snow predicted either, but as you know that changes around here quite often and sometimes even in the same day! With Christmas just around the corner, a tiny little bit of snow would be nice. With the season I have spent way more time in town than I normally do and you know, some people are just weird, or something. I am not trying to be judgmental , but observant. For example, while having lunch t...

Good morning friends near and far! I hope this week has been good to you. It is a busy time of year for sure, and it is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Are you ready? I am not. The house is decorated, and the grand kids gifts have been bought. They are not wrapped however and the family here in this decorated home has not been taken care of. I hope to get right on it tomorrow, before the weekend when everyone else is trying to do the same thing. On top of that the weather has...

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to each of you! Most of us have a whole lot to be thankful for; homes, food, heat, water, friends, family and good health, just to name a few. I hope you all are just where you want to be this holiday and that you have a terrific day. Plenty of turkeys have found their way onto platters today, however I know of three that are still getting into my flower beds. They were all babies this summer and I am wondering if maybe they think they are dogs. They like to...

Good morning! We are in the final countdown of days before Thanksgiving. It seems more like Easter with the weather we have been having, actually I think it has been warmer than some of our Easters over the past few years. Sunday and Monday, November 13 and 14, were the evenings of the “Super Blue Moon”, which happens once every 68 years. The moon is “super” because it is as close to the earth as it will be for another 68 years, and we are lucky to live during a time when we can see it. The Har...

Good morning everyone, another beautiful day in the neighborhood! By the time that this is actually in the paper, we will all know who won what election and there is no doubt in my mind that we will all be glad to have that process over with, whatever the outcome and no matter our political affiliation. However, at the time of this writing, we do not have those answers so I probably will rant and rave just a little bit next week! Our voting station is at the Banner County Courthouse as always...

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far. What a beautiful fall morning it is. November already and, of course, signs of Christmas have been in the stores for a while now. I keep getting these countdown days until Christmas on my computer and quite frankly, I do not want to know just yet. I am still working outside and just not ready for the hustle and bustle. The varsity volleyball girls are preparing for district competition which will begin today, Thursday, November 3. I have no...

Good morning everyone! This fall/summer/spring weather has been great, hasn’t it? We had a little rain one day here recently and that was much appreciated as it is way too dry. I started watering again last week and would rather do that for awhile yet as to have a foot of snow! Eighty one degrees in the middle of October though makes me stop and think about what month it is, and this week is pretty much the end as November is just around the corner. The students here at Banner County are f...

Good morning! Another beautiful fall day, just a little bit to much wind. Could be worse though, right? The damage caused by the rough weather in our eastern/southern states will take months if not years to recover from for those folks. A few locals here experienced the anxiety of the weather as they spent time in Florida during that. We are glad that all turned out well for them. Been pretty good around here except for a few minor bumps and one major one. The major one involved a cute little...

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far. We have sure been having a wonderful fall. I personally hope that this beautiful weather holds for another month! The mums are really pretty right now and my lawn needs mowed at least one more time. I envy you folks who have your yards and gardens all in shape and prepared for what is to come. Friday night was pretty nice for the Banner County Wildcats Homecoming football game where Queen Savannah Jordan and King Cole Blanke were crowned....

ncerely hope everyone is having a good week. Mine has started out not so good. Before the sun was up Monday morning I was sorting laundry. I decided that jeans were to be the first load, two loads actually. I do not check pockets, never have, and everyone in this family knows that. That is their responsibility. Well guess what got left in a pocket? A stinkin too darn expensive cell phone. One of two things had to happen. Either it would dry out and work, or it would not. Waiting to find out was...

Good morning to you all! It is now officially fall, although mother nature has been telling us that for quite some time. This past weekend was pretty nice and would have been perfect if not for the wind. I am assuming that Farmer’s Day in Kimball was well-attended. We only made it to the demolition derby and if judging by the amount of people there, it was great. The stands at the fairgrounds were packed. All of the stands. We had another commitment at 5 p.m. so we left a little bit early. At t...

Good morning Banner County, friends and neighbors. I hope this week has been treating you well. We sure can not complain about the weather, except maybe the lack of moisture. The sunflowers are looking nice though, aren’t they? We have seen quite a few deer lately, but not the elk. The leaves are beginning to change color too and are sure beautiful. As the weather turns colder and soon after the snow begins to fly we will not be able to enjoy our National Parks quite so much, if at all. So for S...

Well Happy Fall, y’all! Sure has cooled off around these parts. Time for me to get ready for a big change. That will take some doing. A sure sign is the fall festivals that are on their way. Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, the Legacy of the Plains will host their 20th Annual Harvest Festival and the Grand Opening of the new Main Exhibit Gallery. They will begin celebrating at 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be a tractor parade and bean harvesting the old fashioned way, since beans are t...

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far! This week started out with cool Autumn mornings turning into summer mid-morning. If this will keep it up for about another month I may actually finish my summer projects. Our fall season is just around the corner though and we have football to prove it! My whole month of June was just gone this year. Every week I was either gone or we had family here, which was really great, but what little plants I had intended on making into a small garden did...

Good morning everyone! What a beautiful day it is. This past week we had almost two inches of nice soft rain over a two day period, followed by a day that seemed like early fall— perfect. Now it is warming up some, and I am okay with that. The students here at Banner County School, K-12 had two days of school last week and this is the first full week of school for them. Pre-school started yesterday Wednesday, August 24 with 10 students. It is also time for our first football game of the s...

Good morning Banner County, neighbors near and far! Welcome to new neighbors Bret and Tiffany Jefferies and their children. We like to see those empty homes fill up! We all here are trying hard to switch gears from summer...to school, and all of the changes that are coming with that. Schedules, homework, and ball games are just a few. Most of you have been there done that or are there now, either with your own kids or grands. Busy times indeed. Buses ran today, Thursday, August 18, for a full...

The Kimball/Banner County Fair has been underway for the past few days and man is there a lot going on, and more will be going on for the rest of the week beginning today with the animal weigh ins. Tomorrow at 8 a.m. the swine will begin the show, followed by goats at 11 a.m. and sheep at 1 p.m. Breakfast will be available at the concession stand until around 8:30 a.m. and the Exhibit Hall will be open for the 4-H and FFA projects. Saturday, August, 13 the concession stand will be open as well...

Good morning Banner County, neighbors near and far! Wow, here it is August, the month I have been dreading since May. August means summer is almost over and I am never ready, although we sure have had some awfully hot days. A few folks here in town sure have some nice gardens going though so the extra heat has been good for that. My garden project was a total failure this year, so maybe I will get a chance again come next spring. At this point, that seems like a long, long way off. Speaking of...

Good morning, Banner County! I hope you are all doing well. I cannot hardly believe that this is the last week of July, but that is what my calendar is saying. Another clue is all of the harvesting that has been going on, plus county fairs that are popping up all over the place. I still have many things to finish, so I am hoping for a late fall. I realize in talking this way I seem to be forgetting August. I am not. It is just that with our fair in August and school starting three days later...

Good morning Banner County! If you are a part of the farming community then congratulations on getting the wheat harvest underway. Combines can be seen all over the county. Good thing. I sincerely hope that the weather co-operates. All of these high temps are perfect to get the fields cleaned up! Good morning Banner County, friends near and far! I hope all are doing well and handling this heat wave we have been experiencing. Wheat harvest has started however, and I expect we will see much more toward the end of this week. We send our sincere sympathy to the the family of Jim Nelson, son of Katherine and the late Rudge Nelson, long time Banner County resident who was involved in a car accident this past week. Sympathy also goes to the family of Wiley Cross also involved in a vehicle...
