  • Contractor finishes water distribution project

    Zachary Laux|Jan 9, 2014

Contractors working on the Pine Bluffs water distribution project laid the last of about 15,000 feet of water main Friday, putting a close to the project which began August 2011. "It's been a tough project, but the town's water main system has been completely revamped," said project engineer for Lindstone and Associates John Goin. Goin, who was at the sight between the community center and NAPA, said contractors with Mechanical Systems Inc. (MSI) started the construction phase of the project...

  • Family wins; Senate campaign ends

    Charlene Smith|Jan 9, 2014

In a family-driven state like Wyoming, it is not unheard of for someone to step back from their work to care for family. Even more understandable for a mother to care for an ill child. So when Wyoming Republican Senate candidate Liz Cheney cited “serious health issues” in her family, at face value, it seemed the right “Wyoming” thing to do. Since Sunday evening when the story broke, no more information has been released on the illness or the family member that prompted such a decisive...

  • Feeling safe driving

    Zachary Laux|Jan 9, 2014

I like to believe We all have a place where we feel safe and comfortable — a sanctuary. That place can be as simple as your living room or as complex as a fallout shelter. Granted, I think most of us would feel safe in a fallout shelter under the right circumstances, but my point is, I think most people define their sanctuary as a place — a stationary place that does not move. I don’t look at it that way. For me, a sanctuary is a state of mind, not a place at all. I guess you could say my... Full story

  • A trip to warmer weather

    Bill Sniffin|Jan 9, 2014

Ever since most of Wyoming got pelted with that first snowstorm in September, I have been itching to get to a warmer climate. On Dec. 30, we climbed into our nine-year old motorhome (aptly named FollowMyNose) and started our slog southward. We earlier got eight inches of new snow. South Pass reports kept claiming chains were required and heavy fog was making traveling dangerous. In other words, be careful. And in additional other words, do not attempt crossing this mountain pass in a 55-foot... Full story

  • Post Editorial: Christmas lights are not dimmed by contest

    Jan 9, 2014

We received a phone call regarding the Christmas Light Decoration Contest and the houses selected as the “winners.” The caller felt that Greg Phillips, 1279 N. Main St. “did a heck of a job” with his lights and display and felt the Pine Bluffs Post “missed out.” The Christmas Light Decoration Contest is an annual contest sponsored by the Pine Bluffs Recreation Department. The Pine Bluffs Post only covers the contest and does not determine who wins. For nine years, Pine Bluffs residents have been encouraged to decorate their homes... Full story

  • Broncs score a win

    Charlene Smith|Jan 9, 2014

The bus ride up to Yoder must have been a smooth one Saturday morning for the Burns Broncs. When they took the floor against the Southeast Cyclones, the only wind that was howling was outside the doors. "We loved the effort and defensive intensity that the kids played with the whole game Saturday," Coach Sean Patterson said. "We came out prepared to compete and were able to create some turnovers." Patterson's enthusiasm for the game was not undeserving as he witnessed 10 players score. The...

  • Lady Broncs start year with a battle

    Charlene Smith|Jan 9, 2014

The Lady Broncs brought experience, preparation and confidence to Yoder for its first conference game of the new year Saturday afternoon. However, winning didn’t come out of the bag they packed for the Southeast Lady Cyclones. “The game was very physical,” Coach Barry Ward said. “We just didn’t execute on offense well enough to win the game.” In the first half, Burns played both sides of the ball well and pulled ahead of Southeast by two. The second half held less net time for the...

  • Matthews picked for motocross university

    Submitted|Jan 9, 2014

Cheyenne Matthews was notified on Christmas Eve that her application to the Ricky Carmichael (Motocross) University had been approved. This was a very selective opportunity for the young Pine Bluffs racer as only 25 riders in the entire United States will gain admission. Ricky Carmichael, known as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) in motocross racing, is one of the instructors and this invitation would be like going on a ride-along with Dale Earnhardt for a NASCAR fan. It will be a...

  • Banner community news

    Barb Cross|Jan 9, 2014

Good morning to you all, here in Banner County and to all of our surrounding friends and neighbors. It has been quite awhile since I have felt as well as I do today. Both physically and emotionally. As far as years go we all know about the ups and downs, it is called Life. Well, my life in 2013 was relatively calm until the last month. I had lost a favorite aunt earlier in the year, but other than that, I was looking forward, prepared actually, for the Christmas holidays. Well, things change in... Full story

  • Herford community news

    Carolyn Ragsdale|Jan 9, 2014

HAPPY NEW YEAR! The Hereford Community Church started off the new year by celebrating Holy Communion and burning burdens. For the special Carolyn Ragsdale read “Shepherd’s Christmas Reunion” by Baxter Black. The sermon theme was “Jesus Is Lord.” The scripture for the day was Luke 2:21-35. Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the temple to present him to the Lord just as the Law required. While they were at the temple, a prophet named Simeon took Jesus in his arms and praised God. God had... Full story

  • Student of the week: Josiah Clark

    Zachary Laux|Jan 9, 2014

Third-grader Josiah Clark at Carpenter Elementary School says his favorite subject is reading, and likes to entice himself with adventure novels. "I really like adventure stuff, like the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings," he said. Many may think those materials are too advanced for a third grader, but not for Josiah, who claims he can read at an eighth-grade level. Josiah's teacher, Amber Imel, said it's hard to determine what grade level he can read at, but confirmed he can read at a much higher...

    Zachary Laux|Jan 9, 2014

The Pine Bluffs Town Council unanimously agreed to take a closer look at the town’s building permit and make adjustments after identifying some problems with the form involving utilities Monday night. Mayor Bill Shain and the council discussed the matter at length Monday night while dissecting a billing issue with Pine Bluffs property owner Preston Harer. Harer developed parcels on the Bluffs in 2008, and received a $877 bill for utility hookup defined in his building permit. However, Harer al...

  • Weather frightful, carbs delightful

    Charlene Smith|Jan 9, 2014

Know what makes a body warm even on the coldest of days? Besides a trip to the Bahamas. Carbs. Or more specific, the burning of carbohydrates in our system. Carbs are not friends to those wanting to shed extra weight, but carbohydrates provide fuel for the body, and warm or cold, bodies need fuel to function. Fuel for the human body takes three basic forms; carbohydrates or sugar, protein, and fat. We are capable of burning all three of these fuels, but do so at different times, rates, and...

  • Looking Back

    Jan 9, 2014

100 years ago Many people do not fully appreciate the importance of a newspaper as a part of their every-day life. A person’s daily duties and casual local occurrences afford familiarity with but a mere pin point on the globe of human interest. Anyone who confines his knowledge to what he sees and hears lives in a narrow world indeed. 1914 is the biennial election of Wyoming. In this year Wyoming will elect a governor, state officers, a legislature, and a congressman. Issues of vital interest to the people of the state will be settled next... Full story
