  • WyDOT to begin eastbound phase of Muddy Creek project

Jimmie Earls, Pine Bluffs Post Editor|Mar 9, 2017

The Wyoming Department of Transportation will soon start work on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 where the Muddy Creek overpass was demolished. WyDOT Engineer Tim Morton said work should start in early April with concrete barrier placement. This will affect I-80 from the 400.5 marker to the Nebraska state line. While the project is under way, eastbound traffic will be diverted onto the westbound lanes, setting two-way traffic. During this time, Morton said access to eastbound I-80 will not...

  • A Wyoming Jewell

    Gary Collins, Pine Bluffs Post|Mar 9, 2017

"A lilting fluting breeze, a soft rhythmic whisper in the trees, this was the beguine dance by an unseen and barely heard zephyr; the metronome for the first movement of a symphony. One droning 'A' note tuned instruments in a mellow tone. "The Plains Blizzard Symphony Sunday Matinee" began on Jan. 2, 1949, and flowed over the open prairies of Wyoming." So wrote Carpenter's Loretta Jewell in the preface of book two of her four volume, "The Blizzard in Black and White, Winter of 1948-49: True...

  • Passing out counterfeit $100 bills on the Las Vegas Strip is a bad idea

    Bill Sniffin|Mar 9, 2017

A few weeks ago, we were spending some warm weather time in Las Vegas. It felt good to enjoy some 75-degree weather after enduring January’s temperatures of -29 and winter conditions like 17 inches of fresh snow in Lander. We loaded up our 2005-vintage motorhome and rambled down Interstate 15. We stayed at a wonderful park called Las Vegas RV Resort, an RV park near a big casino called Sam’s Town. This column is all about my apparent attempt at passing a phony $100 bill at a lunch counter at...

  • Hornet's Buzz

Cody Jones, Pine Bluffs High School Junior|Mar 9, 2017

In the Fall of 2006, Dustin Lee proposed an idea to the parks department about building a disc golf course in the bluffs. There seemed to be support, but unfortunately the idea never came into fruition. In September of 2016, Patrick Cosner made a phone call to Sonya Fornstrom at the Pine Bluffs Parks Department with the same idea in mind. With the growth of the sport over the years and group of knowledgeable individuals only 40 minutes away, it didn't take long for Fornstrom to begin the...

  • Books make great Easter gifts for kids

    StatePoint Media|Mar 9, 2017

(StatePoint) Filling Easter baskets for the kids? Think beyond the typical sweets and treats and consider including books as well. “All kids love books, even if they’re too little to read. For babies and toddlers, choose kid-sized books full of bright photos that they will love looking at again and again. There’s so much research showing how important reading is for a child’s development. You can build on it by making the experience fun for parents and their children,” says Rachel Barry, vice president of marketing and publicity at DK, a pub...

1 YEARS AGO March 8, 1917 At a meeting of the stockholders of the People’s Telephone Company held last Thursday, it was voted to sell the stock of the company to H. H. Whaley. Accordingly, Mr. Whaley is now nearly the sole owner of the stock of the company, which was organized about six years ago and has been operating since. Mr. Whaley does not intend to raise rates in order to put the company on a paying basis, but hopes to secure enough additional lines in the various directions tributary to Pine Bluffs to put the business on a paying b...

    Barb Cross|Mar 9, 2017

Good morning Banner County, friends and family. This past week was beautiful and we sure enjoyed some nice spring weather. Then Monday came with those terrible high winds and clouds. With my opinion about that, on with the news, Banner County folks especially those who either do, or will be attending school here in Harrisburg, and all of you who choice your children into the Banner County School system are encouraged to attend the special Banner County S...

What is that saying, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Well, this lion of ours never seems to nap and in turn is very grumpy. Someone should throw him a lamb, maybe he would stop roaring for a bit. Lions are one of the biggest cats out there. But the smaller, house and farm variety seem to take a bigger part of our heart. Bubba, our family cat, passed away last Monday evening. Most people only get about seven or eight decades. I just spent the last couple with Bubba. And I...

  • Heartbreak in Casper

Jimmie Earls, Pine Bluffs Post Editor|Mar 9, 2017

After rolling unbeaten through the regular season, the defending 2A state champions took out every opponent during the 2A East Regional Tournament in Gillette. So when the team hit Casper last Thursday, many were expecting much of the same. Apparently nobody told the Wind River Cougars or Lovell Bulldogs. When you're thet top dog, everybody is gunning for you and wants to be the first to bring you down. That's what Wind River did...
