Jimmie Earls, Pine Bluffs Post Editor|Mar 10, 2016

After a nearly year-long wait, Laramie County Fire District #5 took delivery of its new tanker truck last Thursday. "This is a brand new tanker, otherwise called a tender, that is replacing a previous 1983 truck we had," said LCFD5 assistant fire chief Derek Walls. "It holds 2,000 gallons of water, but it will also be able to pump a fairly decent amount of water if we need it as a backup pumper or backup engine." The new truck is a 2015 International that was custom-fitted at Rosenbauer in...

  • Carol Mead's book about firsts in the Cowboy State is a must read

    Bill Sniffin|Mar 10, 2016

A small book full of firsts about Wyoming was written two years ago by First Lady Carol Mead, and it is an excellent compilation of unique events that happened first here in Wyoming. It would seem to make sense to me that every school child in the state should have access to it. I have written news stories, books and columns about Wyoming for 45 years and learned a lot from her book. Most everyone in Wyoming and across the nation knows about the two biggest “firsts” that occurred here – Yello...

  • Hornets crowned 2A State Champions

    Patrick Cossel|Mar 10, 2016

Casper College. The home field of the state basketball tournament for 1A and 2A schools. It's the one place all teams hope to be playing at by the end of the season. But only a few actually make it. For the Pine Bluffs Hornets, it is a familiar place to be. The Hornets came into the state tournament last year looking to take home the title but they fell short. This year they were determined not to go home empty handed. The tournament started for Pine Bluffs against Big Piney at 9 p.m. last Thurs...

  • Lady Hornets down rival Southeast, crowned State Champs

    Patrick Cossel|Mar 10, 2016

Having lost to Southeast the week before at Regionals, the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets entered the state tournament as a number two seed and with strong determination. Their season was great as they lost only three times. Twice came by way of Southeast. A fact that is significant. The girls kicked off their tournament play at 4:30 on Thursday at Casper College. Their opponent was the number three seed out of the West, Kemmerer. The game opened with Kemmerer jumping out to a quick four-point lead....

  • No Till Notes: Fortunate

    Mark Watson|Mar 10, 2016

Over the past four weeks I have had the good fortune to travel to four regional conservation agriculture meetings. These meetings are all billed as no-till meetings in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska. What we have learned over the years is that no-till is a tool used in conservation agriculture but is not the “end all” to soil health. All of these meetings are focused on improving the health and performance of the soil that we work with on our farms and ranches. Improving soil health is the end...

Good morning to each of you and here is hoping that the world is treating you well! Last week was the first of March and it started out acting like a lamb, but by the end of the day we had snow, so your guess is as good as mine on how we will bring April in. Personally I am ready for Spring. Remember to spring forward this coming Sunday as it is once again time for the time change. I really do not look forward to loosing any sleep and it takes me about two weeks to adjust. The elementary student...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Mar 10, 2016

The lions of March have not roared quite yet. The drizzling rain earlier this week reminded us how cold and wet it could get. However, the lambs of April are not far off in the meadow of time. Some of those lambs are just being born out at the Sorenson farm. One ewe had triplets and she is tending to their care like a true mother. Just like our youth, the little lambs like chasing the most colorful things in their worlds. It seems it is quite fun when the peacocks jump up on the fence. They try...
