All-time Colorado All-State game coach Duane Lewis will bring his Global Shot Doctor program to Burns High School, June 16.
“These camps are held all over the nation and we are very pleased to bring the program to Burns,” said Burns High School boy’s basketball coach Glen Kirkbride. Kirkbride is responsible for bringing the one-day training camp to Burns.
Kirkbride explained those attending the camp will improve their shooting techniques, learn to shoot more accurately and become more consistent.
“We had the camp out here a couple years ago and I watched Duane (Lewis) take this one kid who was having a heck of a time with his shooting, take just a few minutes to watch him shoot and make some suggestions that almost immediately improved this kids shot,” said Kirkbride.
In addition to the previous camp, Kirkbride brought Lewis out early in the 2009 season to work with his players on the Burns Broncs boy’s squad. Kirkbride said the effect was immediate and the impact tremendous.
“You could see right away the improvement it had on our kids,” he said.
According to the Global Shot Doctor Web site, “Coach Lewis has led successful basketball-shooting camps throughout the United States and around the world for 25 years. Known for his keen eye and quick thinking, Coach Lewis has the ability to diagnose a player’s shot quickly and accurately.”
“Duane is a master of tweaking what’s wrong with a player’s shot and then recommending drills to drive those tweaks in,” said Kirkbride.
Everyone is welcome to attend the camp which will be broken down into two sessions. The first session begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until noon. There will be an hour break and the second session runs from 1 to 4 p.m.
“I really encourage anyone attending to make both sessions, there will be no repeat material between the two,” said Kirkbride.
For a $50 dollar registration fee, attendees get both access to both sessions. Pre-registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on June 16. Those interested in attending should contact Glen Kirkbride at 246-3450 or 286-9918 or via email at glenkirkbride@starbrand.net.
