Saturday is the annual Burns Day celebration with many activities planned to engage the whole family in this community event.

Friday night starts the ball rolling with a hymn sing followed by a cutest baby/child contest. Both will be held at the community center, with the hymn sing set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Entrants for contest —which is to start at 7 p.m. — must be between the ages of newborn to age 10.

Saturday’s slate of events kicks off at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. That ends at 9 a.m. and Laramie County Fire District No. 6 personnel will handle the cooking. A garage sale begins at 8 a.m. at 228 Main St. The sale will end at 6 p.m.

Burns Day parades step off with the kids parade at 9:30 a.m. followed by the official Burns Day parade at 10 a.m. Included are antique tractors and cars which will be set for for a car show following the parades.

Owners of all pre-1980s cars and pickups are invited to participate in the car show. Any make or model in any condition will be accepted, but the vehicle has to be "run-able." Following inclusion in the parade, the cars will set up on Main Street. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Burns High School parking lot, east of the football field, where staging for the parade will take place. At noon prizes will be awarded for the oldest registered vehicle and the fan favorite. Two $20 drawings will also be held. Contact Clarence Steege at 307-547-3705 for more information.

Also following the parade will be the opening of the craft show. At 11 a.m. kids games begin, a cake walk will take place and food vendors open.

At noon a dog show is slated and the beer garden will open. Those who wish to take advantage of the beer garden are reminded identification will be required to make purchases, alcohol must remain in the beer garden and no glass bottles are permitted.

Several activities are on tap for the afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. with a performance by Hands in Harmony. Sponsored by the Laramie County Library System and Wyoming Bank and Trust, the performance is included as part of the 20009 Summer Reading Celebration hosted by the library. Hands in Harmony is an internationally-recognized and award-winning group which uses the perfected art of "sign-singing" — choreographed sign language — as a vehicle to reach all audiences.

Hands in Harmony can be seen at Burns Park.

At 2 p.m. the horse shoe tournament is set to begin. There is a $5 buy-in for participants. Bingo will also be set up in the community center.

From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the gazebo, folks will entertain with their best Karaoke moxie.

The fire department will demonstrate their fire and rescue skills from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Ending the full day of entertainment will be a street dance at 8 p.m. with live music from the Y Bar 4 Band. Y Bar 4 is the symbol of the Bunkhouse Bar in Cheyenne. The group — consisting of Rod on rhythm guitar and vocals, Danny on lead guitar/lead vocals, John on drums and Tom on bass — covers country, oldies, rock and more.
