A group of tractors is set to arrive in Pine Bluffs early Saturday morning to begin what is hoped to be a future marked with many antique tractor drives.
The event is sponsored by the Centennial Antique Tractor & Engine Club of Cheyenne. Club representative Dwayne Trembly said early this week 49 tractors were signed up for the drive with another being readied for inclusion. This will give the event its full compliment of tractors.
This is the first tractor drive for the club, but the club anticipates it becoming an annual event.
"We are looking at doing it yearly," Trembly said. "We’ll see how it goes."
Those participating will join up at the grain elevator in Pine Bluffs at 7 a.m. A pancake breakfast will be served there for the drivers by the club. Following breakfast, a driver’s meeting will be held, and at about 8:30 a.m. the first tractors will take to the road. Slow tractors — those moving at a speed of 6 to 9 miles per hour — will leave first, heading west toward Burns. Faster tractors — those traveling at 10 miles per hour or higher — will leave at about 9:30 a.m.
The group is anticipated to arrive in Burns around noon, where a barbecue lunch served by volunteers from Burns. The lunch will also celebrate of the Burns High School football team’s winning of the 2A state football championship.
The tractors will depart Burns beginning at 1 p.m., meet up at about 3 p.m. at Highway 30 and continue on to Archer. The group will conclude the ride at about 4:30 p.m. at the new county fairgrounds with a cream can supper hosted by the fair board.
Those driving should keep in mind there should be no steel lugs and they must have Slow Moving signs on each tractor. One fire extinguisher is required per two tractors.
