Good weather gets rodeo back on track

With nearly a week to dry out, the arena was ready to go Friday night for the resumption of the Double Bar G Friday Night Rodeo series.

Taking top honors in the steer riding was Morgan Fogg of Pierce, Colo.

In the pee wee barrels, Burns resident Colton Sowards took top honors with a time of 17.421. Chasing Sowards was Jessica Malm of Albin with a time of 18.497, Mallie O’Neal of Burns (18.776) and Kenna Noble of LaGrange (19.907).

Cade Dickerson of Kimball was the only novice bull rider to score on the night with 70 points while in the open bull riding Justin Adams of Cloudcroft, N.M. pulled both first (80) and second (63) when his bull decided to sit down in the middle of Adams’ ride. Adams, in true cowboy fashion, took the re-ride offered.

In the novice breakaway, Grover, Colo.’s Owen Wahlert took the top spot with a 3.7 time while Zane Thompson of Carpenter was a close second at 3.9 seconds.

In the regular breakaway, Kasey Kobza of Brighton, Colo. nabbed her calf in 3.4 seconds to take top honors. Lacy Holeman of Carpenter took second (4.1) and Jessica Johnson of Parker, Colo., took third 5.2.

Sadie Thompson of Merino, Colo., took first in the novice goat tying (12.2) followed by Abbea Faris of Laramie (12.9), Jessica Sowards of Burns (15.9), and Rylee Anderson of Burns (27.2).

Pine Bluffs’ own Chance Madsen took top honors in the bareback riding with 72 points. Madsen is currently tied for second in the state in the Wyoming High School Rodeo Association for bareback and will take his talents to the state compe the 2D barrels, Christine Basler, of Akron, Colo., finished at 17.730 to take the top spot followed by Natalie Booth of Veteran (17.881), Tye Smart of Atwood, Colo., (17.969), and Loretta Grossett of Burns (18.019).

In the 3D barrels, Brenda Johnson took first at 18.338 followed by Dallie Forkner of Torrington (18.792) and Ashley Auman of Pine Bluffs (19.328).

As with most Friday night’s in Pine Bluffs during the summer months, this week’s rodeo begins with the Jr/Sr roping at 5:30 p.m. and regular rodeo action starts at 7 p.m.
