July is a month full of activities at the Pine Bluffs and Burns branch libraries. The libraries will be closed July 4 for Independence Day.
Every Friday at 1 p.m. both branches play host to Movie Day. These activities are free and planned for all ages with free popcorn to snack on. An additional Movie Night is also planned on July 10. The anime movie "Spirited Away" will be shown for students in grades seven through 12. This event is free, as are the soda and popcorn.
On July 7, the branch libraries will host western musician Sid Hausman. This time of western music and entertainment is geared to children and their families. Hausman will be at the Burns branch at 1 p.m. and at Pine Bluffs at 3 p.m.
At 2 p.m. on July 9, adults can take part in an introduction to genealogy class at the Pine Bluffs branch. Expert Elaine Hayes will help participants get started tracing family trees, including the best use of computer resources. This class is perfect for beginners or those who have already begun searching their family history. The class will also be offered at Burns at 10 a.m. on July 11.
"Money, Money, Money" is on tap at Burns on July 13 and Pine Bluffs July 16. This craft session is all about money. Students in grades two through six will make magic wallets and learn how to do money origami. The class begins each day at 1 p.m.
Residents of all ages are invited to join the Pine Bluffs branch staff at the Texas Trail Museum on July 18 at 10:30 a.m. for "Marvelous Morning in Pine Bluffs." This morning of fun includes a museum tour, horse-cart rides, a juggling performance and an ice cream social.
There’s another mystery at the libraries to be solved on July 23 in Pine Bluffs and July 28 in Burns. At 1 p.m. each day students in grades three through six are invited to investigate the Crime Caper. Is Maxie — the missing library gerbil — guilty or innocent? The town of Pine Bluffs is providing swimming passes to all participants of this activity.
And finally, topping off the month, the library along with Farmer’s State Bank will present a concert by Hands in Harmony. This internationally-renowned group of sign-singers will perform at the Pine Bluffs Community Center at 7 p.m.
