Nasty weather no obstacle for Double Bar G rodeo

Even as early afternoon showers did their best to cancel the Double Bar G’s Friday night rodeo, cowboys and cowgirls from across the state descended upon Pine Bluffs for the rodeo.

Brody Cress of Hillsdale was the only placer in the steer riding, amassing 72 points.

In the pee wee barrels, Mallie O’Neal of Burns took top honors with a time of 17.61 followed by Colton Sowards of Burns (18.791) and Dillon Forkner of Torrington (20.916)

In the novice breakaway, Owen Wahlert of Grover, Colo. took first with a time of 4.6 and was followed by Carpenter’s Zane Thompson at 9.2.

In the novice goat tying, Pine Bluffs own Reata Hoar took the top spot with a time of 13.2 followed by Sadie Thompson of Merino, Colo. (14.3) and Jessica Sowards of Burns (18.2).

For the open goat tying, Callie Capraro of Grover, Colo. used an 11.1 time to take the top spot closely followed by Cassie Godfrey of Berthod, Colo. (11.5) and Ann Faris of Laramie (18.4)

Taking top honors in the junior/senior roping was Javier DeLaCruz of Pine Bluffs at 10.4, Sadie Thompson (10.7), and Reata Hoar (14.7)

Cole Dorenkamp of Lamar, Colo. and Troy Schaffer of Fort Collins, Colo. placed first in the team roping at 11.5. In second was Tim Doherty of Sterling, Colo. and Brian White of Brush, Colo. (12.0) and in third were Taylor Thompson and Clint Buringa both of Merino, Colo. (12.1)

In the mixed team roping, Cassie Godfrey of Berthod, Colo. and Taylor Thompson finished at 10.5 to take the top spot. At 13.1 were Samantha and Stuart Hoar of Pine Bluffs in second at 13.1 and Cheyenne’s Mary and Matt Smith placed third at 17.5.

For the individual roping events, Alexis DeKay of Burns took the top spot in the breakaway roping at 4.1 followed by Becky Iverson of Cheyenne at 4.9 and Sadie Cross of Torrington in third at 6.5.

Eaton, Colo.’s J.D. Schweiger was the top calf roper at 11.1 seconds as Greeley, Colo.’s Dean Geeson finished second (13.4) and Jake Clark of Torrington finished third (14.2)

On horses, Garret Goggins of Kiowa, Colo. was the top bareback rider with 72 points followed by Josh Hupp of Cheyenne at 70 points who tied with Clint Dana, also of Cheyenne.

In the saddle bronc riding, Martin Denaeyer of Seneca, Neb. was the top cowboy with 70 points as Shay Wyman of Laramie placed second at 62 points and Josh Leithead of Sterling, Colo. was third with 60 points.

Jack Leiseth of Big piney was the only qualifying bull rider earning 72 points.

In barrel racing, Colleen Vossler of Cheyenne used a time of 16.45 to take the 1D barrels followed by Katie Klinginsmith of Bushnell, Neb. at 16.873 and Vickie Kutsch of Torrington at 16.94.

For the 2D barrels, Jordan Fogg of Cheyenne set the pace with a time of 17.523 and was closely followed by Jayden Clark of Cheyenne (17.593) and Randi Ray Evans of Cheyenne (17.596)

Top mark in the 3D barrels went to Kremmling, Colo.’s Erin Beason at 18.649 as Brush, Colo.’s Audrey Decker finished second at 19.434 and Robin Sylvester of Laramie at 19.574.

Due to the high number of rodeos throughout the state over the Fourth of July Holiday, the Double Bar G rodeo will not be held this coming Friday and will resume July 10 at 7 p.m.
