Ordinance updates needed in Burns
Friday, January 29 2010 Cynthia Shroyer
The conversation at the Burns Long-Range Planning Committee meeting Monday night was short and to the point — there is a need for the town council to update some ordinances.
"I want to see that we have a very clear road to development," Committee member Jim Clark said. "I don’t want to give away the store, but I want to give people a good taste of what we have."
Ordinances such as one prohibiting stores from being open on Sunday and others outlining the responsibilities of developers as they pertain to the installation of infrastructure need to be visited.
During the town council meeting following the committee meeting, mayor Phil Oakes agreed. An effort is underway to go through the ordinances and see what ones need to be tweaked and what ones need to be repealed.
In updates on the former West elementary building, it was announced tours have been given to representatives from STRIDE and a day care owner. It was reported STRIDE is very interested in having an office from which to work when they do home visits on this end of the county. The day care owner is also very interested as the current facility meets location and structural needs.
The next meeting of the long-range planning committee will be 6 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the Burns Community Center
