Getting dropped by eleven points on Friday to the Lady Longhorns of Kimball (44-55) awoke something in the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets on Saturday when they took to the court at thoroughly destroyed the Lady Doggers 69-19.

"The first half of our game Friday was some of the best defense we’ve played all year," said Lady Hornets head coach Bob Cochran who added play in third quarter of the contest was a huge letdown.

After letting the Lady Longhorns take a 15 point lead into the fourth quarter, the Lady Hornets battled back as much against the Lady Longhorns as the ticking clock.

"We picked up the intensity in the fourth quarter and started playing some great basketball," said Cochran.

"We just ran out of time," he added.

In the hotly contested rivalry, senior Brittney Bowman was the top shooter notching 17 points while sophomore Laura Gross got to the 10 times to lead the squad in rebounds.

Saturday’s contest was an entirely different affair.

"Our defense was stingy the whole game," Cochran said

"The offense started fast and just kept going," he added.

Holding a 36-11 advantage at the half, Cochran was able to cycle players in and out of the game to give everyone one some much needed varsity playing time.

"We needed this win," the coach said.

Bowman again ran supreme on the shooters board netting 17 points while senior Brittny Steger was the top rebounder with 10.

On Friday, the Lady Hornets will square off against the Lady Vikings in Guernsey. Junior varsity action gets underway at 4 p.m. and the varsity squad tips off at 5:30 p.m. Saturday sees the Lady Hornets hosting the Leyton with j.v. action getting underway at 1 p.m. and varsity getting underway at 4 p.m.
