100 years ago

Several new buildings and additions are being planned for the near future.

A neat cottage is being erected by Miss Bernice Steward on the lot opposite Dr. Marshall’s residence.

The farmers from the North Divide are taking advantage of the good condition of the roads and are hauling out lumber and coal.

F.F. Simon received this week a fine large Barred Plymouth Rock Cockerel. Call around at his residence and see his big cockerel.

Frank Simon took a few lessons in fancy dancing last Monday afternoon and F. R. Davison informed the ladies that it was all a joke.

Have you ever heard of the sub-surface packer? Andrews & Co. have a sample of this machine in their machinery yard for your inspection.

Ties are arriving for the double track through town; also for the new sidings which are to be constructed this spring. The old windmill will soon be dismantled and removed to one of the branch lines.

F. R. Davison resigned his position as city marshal last Monday night and the town is shy an officer until a suitable man is secured who will act as marshal on a get-what-you-can salary.

Last Friday evening about 5:30 fire was discovered near the top of the Pine Bluffs Elevator. But little damage was done owing to the quick response of our business men. Sparks from a passing engine started the fire.

Funeral services were held for Norma Evalyne Greer.

The trial at Greeley, Colo., of Leonard Belongia, 24, former Minnesota convict, was set for March 5 after he pleaded not guilty to slaying his employer, Albert E. Osterick, 57, New Raymer rancher. Former Sheriff W. w. Wyatt said Belongia had canfessed (sic.) he shot Osterick to death on December 16 and then wounded the rancher’s wife and clubbed the couple’s son, Lambert, 13 years old.

Quick passage of the bill licensing racing and legalizing pari-mutuel betting was seen Tuesday after the senate in committee of the whole had given the measure hearty endorsement.

Western Nebraska Peace officers have been asked to keep an eye open for a Ford V8 car bering license No. 71-94 which was stolen at Kimball Friday night. The car belongs to Roland Rodman, prominent Kimball attorney.

The Speetzen Implement Co. entertained nearly four hundred farmers from this and surrounding territory Saturday at a demonstration and show featuring the new type John Deere tractors for 1935. Attendance was very gratifying, according to H. J. Speetzen, and the enthusiasm shown by those who viewed the new tractors indicates a revival in the farming industry, he believes.

The solo club was entertained at the home of Otto Lewis last Thursday evening. For the evening’s playing Joe Dolan was high point winner with a score of 325. Clyde Osborn was second high with 315 points.

The law suit involving Dr. P. C. Mockett and Dr. A. R. Everett of Kimball was heard by Judge J. L. Tewell Friday and Saturday and has been taken under advisement before a decision is reached. Mockett is seeking to enjoin Everett from practicing because of a contract signed by Everett four years ago.

New arrivals – Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clements of Albin are parents of a 7-lb. 13-oz. daughter. Mr. and Mrs. George Fujanami of Meriden are parents of a 5-lb., 14 1/2 – oz. daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Humphrey of the Divide community are parents of an 8-lb. 8 3⁄4 oz. daughter, Melony Lynn. Mr. and Mrs. John Kissinger of Pine Bluffs are parents of a 7-lb. 14-oz. son, Michael John. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Laycock of Meriden are parents of a 7-lb. 9 1⁄2 oz. daughter, Moneen Elaine. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Schoene of Cheyenne are parents of an 8-lb., 14 1⁄2 oz. daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth youtz of Burns are parents of a 7-lb., 3-oz. son.

George Davis was taken by the Pine Bluffs ambulance to the Kimball hospital Sunday evening after he suffered a broken leg when kicked by a cow. He later was moved to DePaul hospital in Cheyenne, where he underwent surgery Monday.

After rolling to a 29-14 first quarter lead, Pine Bluffs made liberal use of substitutes Tuesday night in making a 76-56 triumph over Albin in a non-conference basketball game here Tuesday night.

Carpenter high rolled to an easy 75-31 win over Albin at Carpenter Friday night.

Miss Janet Supon, daughter of Supt. And Mrs. Frank Supon, Wyoming’s winner of the cherry pie baking contest and her chaperon, Mrs. Currie Griffis will leave by plane for Chicago Monday to participate in the national contest being held there. Representatives from 50 states will compete in the national cherry pie baking contest on Thursday.

Funeral services were held for Albert Gade, Mrs. Carrie H. Lee and Chester G. Wilcox.

Mountain Bell said Tuesday that Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) order granting only $3.8 or a $20 million request for increased annual revenues will require the company to adopt a no mdernization, no service improvement policy for state telecommunications which is contrary to customer demand and current efforts to improve Wyoming’s economy.

Airman Lowell S. Glassburn, son of Robert L. Glassburn, Padroni, Colo., and Carol J. Brown, Burns, has graduated from the U.S. Air force administrative specialist course at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.

USDA surplus cheese and butter will be distributed to low-income and unemployed residents of Eastern Laramie County.

New arrivals – Kevin, Vickie and Erin Schinzel are proud to announce the birth of their son and brother, Jared Don. David and Jason Bruckner would like to announce the arrival of their baby sister, Kristie Lee. Jim, Sally, Ryan and Angela of Albin, are pleased to announce the birth of their son and brother, Grant Eric.

Congratulations Pine Bluffs 1985 SEWAC Class 2A Rgional Champions.

It took four games, three in a twenty-four hour period, but the Albin Wildcats will once again be traveling to the State Tournament this week, as they defeated an inspired Chugwater team last Saturday afternoon to finish the Regional Tournament in 3rd place.

High Point Bison, of Weld County, CO, had the distinction of having the Grand Champion Female at the National Western Stock Show this past January.

Albin downtown may have a park in the near future if plans progress with the donation of property by the post office to the town for that purpose. That was brought to the Albin Town Council at its meeting last Wednesday night.

The Albin Town Council is looking into adopting an employee policy. The idea has been bounced around for quite some time, but Councilmember Bob Gilbert took the initiative and gathered policies from companies and other towns and compiled one which he presented to the council for consideration at last Wednesday’s council meeting.

The Crow Valley Lady Falcons hosted Prairie at Grover last Friday night and fell 27-66.

Burns and Pine Bluffs high school wrestling teams were at Yoder last Saturday vying with eleven other schools at the Southeast Duals. The Broncs finished with a 2-2 record while the Hornets with only a three man team went 0-4.
