Stringing together another two victories, the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets knocked off the Potter-Dix Coyotes in easy fashion, 64-37 and downed 2A Southeast rival the Lusk Lady Tigers on Saturday, 40-24.

Friday’s contest wasn’t even close as the Purple and Gold jumped out to a 13-5 first-quarter lead and never looked back, owning every frame of the game.

"We played a good overall game," said head coach Bob Cochran.

"Defense was effective and we got the fast break going," he added.

Coasting to such an easy victory, Cochran was able to rotate everyone into the game.

On the evening, Brittney Bowman was the top shooter, nabbing 17 points while Kodi Ragsdale was the game’s top rebounber with nine.

In Saturday’s contest, Cochran said the Lady Tigers rolled out an effective defense that stymied the Lady Hornets offense until well into the first quarter.

"Our offense never really got going until after the first five or six minutes of the game," Cochran said.

Cochran noted that while the offense struggled, the defense was in lock-down mode, denying Lusk any opportunity to get back in the game.

"When you’re not shooting, the defense needs to be solid," he said.

In the game against the Lady Tigers, Ragsdale was the top point-scorer with 11 and Johnna Graves got to the ball 11 times to be the squad’s top rebounder.

Up next, the Lady Hornets will get a taste of what’s in store for them when they move on to regionals.

"We have a very big weekend coming up as far as the SEWAC is concerned," said Cochran.

Friday sees the ladies traveling to square off against the Southeast Lady Cyclones. Junior varsity action starts at 4 p.m. while the varsity squad taking to the court at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, a very tough Burns Lady Broncs team comes to town as the two schools add another contest to this storied rivalry. The ball goes in the air for the JV squad at 1 p.m. while the varsity contest shakes the Hornets’ Nest starting at 2:30 p.m.
