The cement block factory started up operations Monday.
About twelve immigrant cars have arrived the past week, others are to follow.
Geo. L. Nelson received his new gasoline plow outfit a few days ago and is now busy plowing.
Messres. C.E. Carlstrum and M. Ekstrom returned from a three months visit to their childhood haunts in Sweeden (sic). They were accompanied on the trip by Mr. Carlstrum’s son Alfred.
Halley’s comet is getting nearer. It is not yet known whether its coming portends war in Europe, Central America or Philadelphia.
Doubtless many a married man will clip out and take home a Chicago judge’s ruling that a wife has no real right to warm her cold feet on her husband’s back.
The Ladies Aid met March 9. There were quite a number of the members present and at this meeting two new members were added to this society.
Stephen Nussbaum of Florence Kansas who bought the south west quarter of 24-15-61 of Mr. Beatty, arrived with his car and is now comfortably located in his new home north west of Pine Bluffs.
Chas. Mallrow known here as Chas. Monroe, who came here some time ago and engaged in the restaurant business in partnership with one Wilkins, was arrested on a warrant sworn out by A. Bender. Monroe entered Bender’s Barber shop and took from a pair of pants owned by Bender a pocket book containing about $30. Mallrow will probably be taken to the Nebraska reform school at Kearney from which place he escaped recently.

A very enjoyable evening was spent by an appreciative audience at the Community Methodist Church when the Ladies Aid Society celebrated their Silver Anniversary. The program opened with a Trombone solo by Norman Nelson with Miss Rowena Ellsworth at the piano. This was followed by a reading of the history of the Aid Society of Pine Bluffs by the president Mrs. George Carlstrum.
Mrs. Jim Wikinson opened her home to specialists of home management from the Wyoming University at Laramie and their representatives, who are leaders of demonstration clubs in our surrounding communities.
Thieves made a complete cleaning of all the chattels on the farm of Joe Singleton, north of Bushnell. Information was withheld by the sheriff’s office last week. Mr. and Mrs. Singleton have been living in Kimball the past winter. Their property was locked in the house and granary. Cloths and bedding were taken away and hauled in a truck. A DeLaval cream separator was also torn up and taken.
With approximately sixty million acres of land damaged by the record breaking wind and dust storm which swept over this entire section last Thursday, the soil erosion service of the United States government has issued a warning that such storms and damage are likely to continue until farmers take adequate steps for their prevention.
Yes Sir, the big Fat-Lean Basketball Game is all set. About thirty players have been signed up for the big tussle, and what a tussle it is going to be. Al Droessler says it will take some jumper to beat him at center and Otto Lewis says they don’t make ‘em thin enough to get by him at guard, and with H.J. Speetzen droppin’ ‘em in from all angles it looks tough for the leans. But, the leans claim they will never let the ball get down low enough for the heavies to get hold of it, and that WILL be something.
Scarlet fever, from which he suffered less than a week, Wednesday evening ended the life of George Goohs, prominent Cheyenne business man, civic leader and chairman of the Frontier Days committee.

New arrivals — Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eugene Bymer of Kimball are parents of a daughter, Patricia Jean. Mr. and Mrs. William DeFreece of Cheyenne are parents of a son, Scott Alan. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Foster of Aztec, N.M. are parents of a daughter, Cathy Sue. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hirsig of Iron Mountain are parents of a daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Willam Roberts of south of Bushnell are parents of a son, Marvin Edward. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery of Cheyenne are parents of a daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Spellman of Cheyenne are parents of a daughter.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Philip Weber of Burns.
Hornets end season at 16-6.
A.E. Carlstrum and George N. Phillips were honored with special businessman awards in recognition of outstanding contributions to the community by the Jaycees. Key man awards went to Donald Brown, Calvin Sisson and Eugene Miller. Exhausted rooster awards went to Shirl Brown and Lawrence Uri. Teen-age Road-E-O award went to Kenneth Stevens.
The local Lions club is sponsoring a drive to sell new 50-star US flags to Pine Bluffs citizens.
There were well over 500 hungry persons filled with hot pancakes, sausage, bacon, coffee, etc., at the annual Good Neighbor Night at the Ag Hall here despite the sub-zero weather.

The first step toward consolidating of the Pine Bluffs Volunteer Fire Department and the Rural Fire District # 5 was taken at a public meeting that preceded the Pine Bluffs Town Council meeting.
Selected as DAR Good Citizens in eastern Laramie County recently were Chris Leinenger, 17, of Carpenter, senior at Burns High School; Sherry Bowman, senior at Pine Bluffs High School; and Andy Malm, senior at Albin High School. The three outstanding students will compete for the title of Wyoming DAR Good Citizen, a $100 bond. The state winner will compete on a national level.
To date, Mayor Tim Conner and Councilman John Gross have been the only individuals filing for the upcoming city elections.
Willard McLaughlin, Albin, is a member of the Laramie County Community College’s award winning livestock judging team that recently captured first place, Grand Champion, in the state-wide livestock judging contest in Lander.
A large crowd of 4-H members and parents gathered at the Community Building in LaGrange to honor Mr. and Mrs. Jelmer Johnson and family, as Jelmer has decided he will no longer be the 4-H Horse Club leader, after several years spent with the young people.
The Pine Bluffs FFA Chapter held its Green Hand and Chapter Farmer installation. The Green Hand marks the beginning of four potential degrees that all FFA members may receive. Green Hands recently installed are Tricia Schaefer, Lori Stewart, Jennifer Sterle, Wade Palmer, Cory Vandiver, Bert Macy, Stewart Lanning and Stephen Green. Chapter Farmers installed are Jay Knigge, Charles Jones, Dennis Herman, Dan Purdy, Fred Macy and Mark Fornstrom.
The Pine Bluffs Elementary students in Grades 1 and 2 are busy rehearsing their operetta. "Goin’ Buggy."
Cows don’t usually attend formal banquets in hotel dining rooms, but the past weekend two champion Charolais females from the Bauman Ranch show string at Carpenter were featured in a special pan in the ballroom of the Shamrock Hilton in Houston, Tex., for exhibitors attending the Houston Livestock Show.

A work session was held by school district trustees to working on alternative ways for cutting school costs.
For the third straight year, Albin school had the distinction of having the best speller in Laramie County. Tyler Hughes, an eighth grader at Albin and the son of Dale Hughes and Rochelle Portera, won the Laramie County Spelling contest in Cheyenne. Although he does not remember the last word he spelled to win the title this year, he said he remembers it wasn’t a very hard one. His coach is Lisa Gilbert.
The Burns Town Council put forth two projects they would like to see put on the Capital Facilities Tax ballot. A storm sewer system that would cover the downtown area on Commerce Place got the highest priority. The town also made the request for $860,000 for sewer work along 10 blocks.
Representative Rodney "Pete" Anderson and his wife, Bonnie, were presented with an engraved plaque which has an inlaid clock as they were honored with the Distinguished Service Award at the Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Legislative Dinner in Cheyenne.
Lisa Lerwick, daughter of Jim and Linda Lerwick and a senior at Albin High School, won a gold medal in essay at the Wyoming Academic Decathlon in Powell.
Births — Curtis and Tamara Sandberg of Laramie are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Elliot Eldon Scott. Colleen Miller and Matt Curless announce the birth of their daughter, Paige MacKenzie Curless.
