Coming into the 2A East regional tournament as the southeast’s top seed, the Burns Lady Broncs easily got through their first opponent, Wright, 48-38, but ran into some trouble when they faced the Tongue River Lady Eagles in the semi-finals falling , 49-57, and then getting knocked out of state tournament contention when they fell to the Southeast Lady Cyclones, 41-48, in the consolation brackets.

"I really liked our intensity in the first half," said Lady Bronc head coach Barry Ward.

The Lady Broncs’ defense held the Lady Panthers offense scoreless in the first quarter on their way to the victory. In the game, Michelle Bastian notched the double-double to lead the team in both categories with 12 points and 17 rebounds.

In Friday’s first game against the Lady Eagles of Tongue River, Ward said the combination of talent and size of the Lady Eagles overwhelmed his squad.

"We had one lapse in the first quarter of this game and could never recover from it," Ward said.

Senior Jordan Hirsig was the Lady Bronc top shooter with 18 points.

"Foul trouble and the free throw line plagued us the whole game and we just didn’t have enough to win," Ward said of the team’s loss to Southeast.

"Southeast shot 26 free throws while we only managed six. That really hurts in a seven point game," Ward said.

Alex Ward was the squad’s top shooter with 13 points.

While Ward and his squad are disappointed they didn’t continue to state, Ward said he’s very proud of what his team accomplished this season.
