Water problems getting resolved
Friday, August 20 2010 Cynthia Shroyer
Concerns about the town's new water meter pits dominated the public comment portion of Monday night's Pine Bluffs Town Council meeting.
Lance Theobald is one of the 10 percent of affected residents wondering when and how the issue will be resolved.
"No one has come to us as to why this 10 percent was impacted," mayor Bill Shain told Theobald.
Moving past the issue of water pressure, Theobald asked if he would be charged more for water use if he went with a bigger meter.
Shain said according to a rate study being considered by council, the higher water user would pay more and a base rate determined by line size would be set. Theobald wanted to know why someone with a 1-inch line would be charged more on the base rate than a person with a .75-inch line.
Councilman Mark Fornstrom said the town engineer recommended the base rate which is not based
"on the total amount of water used, but instantaneous demand. That’s where that theory comes from."
Theobald asked if he would be reimbursed the difference in tap fees as he had paid for a 1-inch tap and it was replaced in the water meter pit work with a .75-inch tap. Shain said he felt that reimbursement would be reasonable.
Shain noted the town went with the recommendations of the engineers regarding the size of water meter pits and has been asking the same questions residents are asking about the change in some residents’ service.
