Elections to the Pine Bluffs Senior Center Board of Directors were held in December, reelecting Sherry Acheson. Ron Ladd and Dulsa Brammeier were newly appointed to the board.

Norma Jean Anderson delivered her last director’s report for 2011, reviewing the center’s year of service, meals and activities. Anderson explained food service is the center’s number one priority, and 13,952 meals were served. This total does not include staff and guest meals. Meal count is important as the center receives grants funding based on the daily meal count.

As required for senior centers, the Pine Bluffs facility has a dietician on staff.

“Katie Stratton reviews, analyzes and evaluates out menus and recipes,” Anderson said.

Other services provided by the center in 2011 included help filling out 36 Low Income Disabled Tax refund applications, 15 Low Income Energy Assistance Program applications, five SNAP applications (food stamps), one title eight housing application and three CHA papers, according to Anderson’s report.

The year brought in a perfect score for the center on their health department visit. Also in health news, 65 seniors received flu shots in 2011.

For activities birthday parties were held monthly, two senior fun nights were hosted with Dalton Fuller, a blue grass band played and a hobby show were all hosted at the senior center. Several trips were made to Cheyenne for seniors to tour the Frances E. Warren museum, watch the CFD parade and see the botanic gardens. A new activity at the senior center this fall was bingo.

Ending her director’s report, Anderson thanked the board, staff and volunteers that keep the senior center going.
