The Pawnee Lady Coyotes gave the Fleming Lady Panthers a rough welcome, beating them 50 to 28. Their overall record is 6-0 with 2-0 for in-league play.
The first three quarters Pawnee more than doubled the points put up by the Lady Panthers. The quarter set the pace of the game with 16-6, followed by 14-6 and 17-7 in the second and third. The final canto had Fleming lead 9-3, but the damage was done and Pawnee had secured its victory.
After being out on injury since their first game, Adele Cass came back with a vengeance. Cass led the ladies in scoring with 16 points, two field goals and four three-point shots. Tasha Timm added 11 points, five field goals and went 1-3 on free throws. Kaylie Hahn and Lyndee Johnston mirrored each other’s play with six points and three field goals each. Kaeley Malcom rounded out the top scorers with five points, two field goals and one free throw. Katie Klinginsmith, Morgan Sanders and Afton Zitek all contributed two points to the team’s total.
“The team played great defense with high intensity creating 15 steals,” coach Laura Hodgson said. “The team passed the ball and rebounded well.”
The game scheduled against Beth Eden Baptist Saturday was cancelled, which sent the ladies to Weldon Valley Tuesday instead. The results of that match will be in next week’s issue of the Pine Bluffs Post. Today, Jan. 12, Pawnee opens their court to Prairie and continues hosting duties Friday for a game against Pine Bluffs.
