Pine Bluffs Lady Hornet Conner Graves works her way around Burns Lady Bronc defender Rylee Anderson in their game Saturday.

The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets split their weekend games, losing 47-41 to the Morrill Lady Lions on Friday before heading to Burns and winning 63-45.

“I thought we played as hard as we had all year,” coach Bob Cochran said of Fridays contest. “The ball did not want to fall in, but defensively we did what we wanted to do. Morrill had some height and that hurt some.”

The Lady Hornets lost a starter in the third quarter when Kodi Ragsdale had to leave the floor with a possible concussion.
Laura Gross had the hot hand in the game connecting for 15 points. Cassidy Smith added 11 and tied with Gross for the most boards taken with seven.

“Burns is young but played very hard,” Cochran said. “We played with a lot of heart again in this game. Defensively we did some great things in the first half, but let up at times in the second. We found our shooting touch again this game. We had lost it since Christmas break so that was good.”

Gross worked hard for the Lady Hornets putting 22 points on the board and scoring a double-double by adding 10 boards. She was a perfect 12 of 12 from the charity stripe. The next closest scorer was Conner Graves who found the net for 11 points, including connecting on a trey.

The Lady Hornets are on the road Friday as they head to their Nebraska neighbors to play Kimball. On Saturday, they will welcome Lingle-Ft. Laramie to the Hornets’ Nest.
