Pawnee Coyotes remain dominant

Upsetting the home team, Pawnee beat Briggsdale 66-42 on Tuesday, Jan. 17. On Friday, the Coyotes took home a solid 85-46 win over Weldon Valley.
In Briggsdale it was a tight game at the half, with the Falcons trying to soar over the Coyotes leading 24-22. The Coyotes clipped their wings in the third quarter scoring 21-5, then kept them grounded 23-13 in the last quarter.
“In the begining of the 3rd quarter we forced some turnovers, sped up the pace of the game and started hitting shots to pull away,”coach Tim Brunelle said.
Brye Brunelle was the leader of the pack scoring 25 for the Coyotes and assisting seven times. Kevin Shoemaker and David Martin mirrored each other with nine points. Shoemaker led rebounding with 12, according to Coach Brunelle.
There was no slow start when the Coyotes traveled to Weldon Valley. Pawnee led put up 17 over the Warrior’s eight in the first quarter. The second quarter saw more fight out of the Warriors, who still trailed 16 to 22, making it 39-24 as the teams hit the locker rooms.
“At Weldon Valley, we played a good fast paced tempo throughout, and other than too many turnovers, we played very well, and out-rebounded them 43-9,” Coach Brunelle explained.
Both teams kept scoring in the double digits for the remaining quarters, but Pawnee outplayed Weldon Valley by 12 points in both stanzas, 24-12 and 22-10. The 85-46 victory takes the Coyotes to 11-0 for the season.
Tied at 20, Brunelle and Shoemaker shared the high scorer title Friday. The pair also led the team in rebounds with Shoemaker nabbing 15 and Brunelle grabbing 12, earning both players a double-double. Kelby Hahn changed the point lights 13 times.
The undefeated team takes to the road again Friday to face-off with Fleming, then has the home court for Saturdays game against Peetz.
