Hardware store continues to lumber

At Lipps lumber, clients are greeted by Leroy Lipska and Bunny, his sweet, mellow dog.

A hardware store that contributed to the development of Pine Bluffs is going out of Business.

Lipps Lumber and Hardware's last day of business will be on Saturday, June 7. Lipps' only store is in Pine Bluffs. The business provided parts to clients in town as well as surrounding areas. When Lipps opened five years ago, it was a booming store because Pine Bluffs had a good housing market. But after the housing went down, it wasn't enough to carry the business.

"It's not paying to stay open," current owner, Leroy Lipska, said.

The store started out doing well but then, it was a "stair step down" and has lumbered since then, Lipska said. Lipps has helped clients with hardware, lumber, glass and screen repair. Lipska said he's helped clients and the community find what they needed. If clients were short on parts, he would help them find it in the store. Lipps' main clients were contractors. Now, when contractors come into town, they have their own materials.

"There are a lot of good memories from this store," Lipska said. "I've enjoyed joking around with the store's clients."

Lipska has been a part of Pine Bluffs since 1973. He's worked at Lipps since it opened. There have been three previous owners before Lipska, he said. He also said he has enjoyed being here.
