Cross Country brings home 1st Place

The Pine Bluffs/Burns Cross Country team headed up to Wheatland today for a new kind of meet.  The course included a “Gauntlet” of sorts for our kids to conquer as well.  Our team was one of 6 teams to compete in the Inaugural Bulldog XC Invite.

We did amazing!! Today not only did our kids rock, the JH Boys, JH Girls, and HS Girls took a first place plaque home!

Our JH boys took first at the Wheatland Meet.  We had three boys place top ten in the 2.5 Kilometer race--Juan Morales (3rd 11:33), Austin Clark (7th 13:49), and Clay James (9th 14:59).  The rest of our boys ran hard to help the team get their first place success.  Remember XC is an individualized team sport.  We all help each other.

Our JH girls also took first in the Wheatland Meet.  We had five of our girls place top ten in the 2.5 Kilometer race--Emma Gonzalez (1st 13:28), Ahna Siebert (2nd 13:33), Grace Steenbergen (4th 14:09), Kamber Clayson (5th 15:16), and Kati Love (10th 17:22).  Our program is growing with some fantastic women on our team.  Great showing of talent today.

All the JV and Varsity girls ran together.  Once again we are struggling with injuries and had quite a shake-up in our top seven girls.  Hopefully we can get healthy in the coming weeks for the state meet--just three weeks away. JV Girls we had all ladies place top ten Gracie Kieter (2nd), Alison Mickelson (6th), and Taylor Crouse (7th).  Our Varsity team walked away with the first place trophy with placing two in the top ten--Shelby Thurin (6th 21:57) and Hallie Christofferson (7th 22:03).  We had a team score of 49 points.  Our runners are seconds away from PRs and we can’t wait to see the time tick tick tick off.

All the JV and Varsity boys ran together as well.  The top seven has been fluid this year, which makes for good competition within the team. Colby Stockton placed 6th (21:03) in the JV race.  Our boys took second to Saratoga today by placing two in the top 10--Jack Ikes (7th 18:57) and David Gordon (9th 19:03).  Our boys are on fire right now.  We are cutting times left and right… we had a freshman break 20 minutes today--Greg Fornstrom with a time of 19:59.

We head to Cheyenne next week and would love a turnout at our “home” meet.  We only have two meets left before state.  Our kids are looking great! Be sure to congratulate a harrier next time you see one!
