  • Local wordsmith pens first novel

    Polly Taylor|Jan 8, 2015

If you are an avid reader of fiction, particularly psychological thrillers, and like being kept on the edge of your seat waiting to see what the next page will bring, then you will want to read "This Time Justice," where the Wild West meets the mean streets of New York, in a new novel recently published by local writer Liz Roadifer. Although a published author of columns in literary magazines and short stories, this is the first full-length novel Roadifer has published, and is currently...

  • Mysterious Ames Monument will be topic of state's 125th celebration

    Bill Sniffin|Jan 8, 2015

Wyoming is full of unusual and mysterious places. The Medicine Wheel between Lovell and Sheridan is one such place. The birthing rock north of Rock Springs is another. And one of the oddest of all is the Ames Monument, known as the “pyramid of the plains” located between Cheyenne and Laramie. That monument will be a primary focus of the Laramie event in June to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Wyoming. It is a unique structure that can barely be seen from Interstate 80 at the top of the She...

  • Just a Few Thoughts...

    Polly Taylor|Jan 8, 2015

Happy New Year! I hope all of our readers and advertisers had a fun, as well as safe, celebration last week. The Winds of Change With any new year comes change. It’s inevitable, whether we like it or not. The government puts new laws into effect, most of which we probably won’t like. Kids go back to school, when they would rather still be at home. And work, well what can you say about work, except that people come and go, sometimes voluntarily and other times not. In the case of the Pine Blu...

  • New Year brings new fishing regulations

    Submitted|Jan 8, 2015

Several new fishing regulations will go into effect with the New Year. • Looking Back

    Jan 8, 2015

1 Years Ago Jan. 8, 1915 The question of consolidating the rural schools in this section is being seriously considered. The plan is to have a graded school with three rooms and a high school course added in each specified section and haul the pupils to and from such school. If this plan can be worked out there is no question but what it would materially raise the standard of common schools. Where this plan has been tried out in other states it has given perfect satisfaction. The serious difficulty here is on account of the spare population it...

You all know how I really feel about winter anyway. Snow is great the day before Christmas and that is about it as far as I am concerned. Moisture is great; that is, if it ever gets warm enough to thaw. Yes, “Baby, it’s Cold Outside”. This is the third day that school has been back in session. Today, Jan. 8, the high sc...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Jan 8, 2015

What a pretty start to 2015 we had in Albin. The snow, still falling, covered everything in sight. But watch out for the roads. They are still slick and could cause you to run into something or someone. I took a new year’s run Thursday afternoon. The temperatures warmed to a balmy 28 and I thought it was a great opportunity to start a new resolution. Not even off 5th Avenue, however, a car came less than two feet from running into me. No big deal. It is icy and things travel when we want them t...

  • No-Till Notes: 'Moving Forward'

    Mark Watson|Jan 8, 2015

I feel like we are at important cross roads with the field pea industry here in our region. We have grown the field pea industry from a grass roots movement to what it is today. Today we have grown to 30,000 acres of field peas in our region with the opportunity to grow much larger. We need to continue to develop this industry which will add to the economy of our agricultural community. Field peas don’t really compete with other crops grown in our region as they mostly replace summer fallow a...

  • Healthy New Year Recipes

    Crabbie Abner|Jan 8, 2015

Hey there! My name is Crabbie Abner, but you can just call me Crabbie. That’s what I become when I’m hungry. My friends, who will tell you not to let my smile fool you, know better than to get within a claws-length when my stomach starts rumbling. Speaking of which.... I thought since this is my very first column that I would offer up a couple of (mostly) healthy recipes; one for vegetarians, and one for those that have a passion for chicken. Because I’m kind of a loner – who do you know that wants to share dinner with a fella like me – I ten...
