Pine Bluffs Elementary school was one of many schools to host the Scholastic Book Fair Event. To bring more awareness to the community, the school had a Community Event on Thursday, Oct. 30. The Albin Delta Club meeting was held Oct. 23 at the home of Martha Cannon. The hostess was Dorothy Seymour. For lunch we had two kinds of soup and homemade biscuits. Burns Lady Broncs fought for a spot to compete at Regionals last weekend in Torrington. The Lady Broncs have gained power and skills during their successful season. With Veterans Day coming up, I am reminded of the long line of Veterans in my own family. My father Jack Hobbs was the youngest of the infamous Hobbs boys. Each one of the five boys were World War ll veterans. I would sit between my father and his brother Frank soaking in every word the two spoke. Those moments usually ended in my side hurting from the laughter that came from those conversations. One such conversation will live in my mind forever. Good morning and welcome to some cooler weather. Last weekend was fairly decent; but with lots of wind and now my front yard is once again full of mustard weed. And to make things more challenging, we woke up with snow Monday morning! Now the weeds look very pretty. We have also had another time change and I don’t know about you, but I hate them. Last week we looked at two of the rotations Dr. Dwayne Beck uses on his dry land acres at the Dakota Lakes Research Farm, Pierre, S.D. The first rotation is a simple rotation of cool season grass, warm season grass, and cool season broadleaf. A lot of continuous no till crop producers use this rotation on their farms. In September, the District Board of Directors approved the current annual operating budget of $2,959,361. These are the funds the District uses for operating expenses and projects and programs for its current fiscal year, which runs from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015. During Pine Bluffs’ town meeting Monday night, a historical photographer informed the town council and visitors that Pine Bluffs will be one of many towns featured in his research project. Doc Thissen, student, photographer and historian, is traveling on the Lincoln Highway to photograph small towns in Wyoming.
