  • Expanding!

    Polly Taylor|Jan 22, 2015

It took a couple of years of thoroughly researching what the most important needs of the Pawnee School District needs, in terms of space, upgrades, and increased security for school students, before the school board put a bond issue before the voters. But the board's patience and due diligence paid off when voters approved a $4.5 million bond issue, which will be paid off over a period of five years, instead of the normal 20 or 30 years, last year. Superintendent Bret Robinson, who wears many...

  • Lions distribute gift cards during Service Week

    Polly Taylor|Jan 22, 2015

The Pine Bluffs Lions Club observed Service Week, addressing hunger last week, by distributing $25 gift cards from various grocery stores to groups in need. Bob Lyons, Lions Club treasurer, presented Pastor Dan DeBruyn at the Pine Bluffs Baptist Church with a card, and the pastor later said, "I won't have this card for very long. I know exactly who will get it, and I am grateful to the Lions Club for their generosity." The cards were purchased as part of a project the club worked on jointly...

  • Lady Hornets pull out win

    Patrick Cossel|Jan 22, 2015

The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets took to the road this weekend as they faced off against the Saratoga Lady Panthers in Saratoga. The Lady Hornets started the game a little flat in the first half but found their rhythm in the second to score a 62-43 win. Coach Lindsey Forbes expressed her concerns about how the girls started the first half. "We didn't play our best basketball. We came out flat the first half and did not execute on either end," the coach said. The Lady Hornets found themselves...

  • Hornets buzz past Panthers

    Patrick Cossel|Jan 22, 2015

A dominate effort on both ends of the court led the Pine Bluffs Hornets to an 86-52 road victory against the Saratoga Panthers in Saratoga on Friday. The Hornets took the lead in the first period and never looked back. They out-scored Saratoga 30-10 in the first quarter and 15-14 in the second. At the half Pine Bluffs led 45-24. Coming out of the locker-rooms at half-time was business as usual for Pine Bluffs as they continued to wrack up more points leaving Saratoga further and further behind....

  • Winning not necessary for good sportsmanship

    Polly Taylor|Jan 22, 2015

Just because a team or individual athlete wins at a particular sport does not necessarily make the team or athlete an automatic candidate for good sportsmanship. Sometimes, the way you handle losing is more important. Pine Bluffs mat man, Colt Lewis, found this out at the recent Shane Shatto Memorial Tournament in Douglas. Lewis was in the next to last match with his opponent, but it just wasn't his day because he lost. However, he did not let the loss dampen his sense of good sportsmanship,... Full story

  • My Wyoming: A close-up look at the past (and the future) of the newspaper industry

    Bill Sniffin|Jan 22, 2015

My, how things have changed in my wonderful newspaper business over the past 45 years! A week ago at this time, I was mingling with young, earnest reporters and gray-haired publishers. Plus even a few of the retired silver-haired mossback curmudgeons (like myself) who could still manage to drive across the state in the dead of winter to show up. Cheyenne hosted the annual Wyoming Press Association convention and, as near as I could tell, it was a big success. What struck me the most is not so...

This year I will get to just sit back, listen, and learn from some excellent speakers lined up to present at this year’s conference. I enjoy this c... Full story
