The Laramie County Community Christmas program, which raises funds for grocery cards given out to many rural individuals and those in the larger cities. Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away January 4, 2022, at Davis Hospice Center surrounded by family. Phyllis was born August 21, 1933, in Lindbergh, WY, to August and Anna (Knuth) Wiese. She married her high school sweetheart, Merlin Cooney, on March 21, 1953, and eight children were born to this union. With winter upon everyone, having recreation events falls to serving warm soups and chili and watching movies. Pine Bluffs Recreation Department has set up such an event. The Hornets are swarming. With seven wins in a row the Hornets are eager to see how far they can go on this streak. The 5-10 Lingle-Ft Laramie Doggers would be the next challenge on January 29. Monse Serrano had just won the shot put event in Laramie for the Burns/Pine Bluffs indoor track team and broke her own personal record for the event. In a game that was never decided until the last buzzer the Burns Broncs were in the fight of their life with the Wheatland Bulldogs. In an up and down battle the Bulldogs kept pace with the Broncs and never let them get out of sight. The Broncs took the first quarter but the Bulldogs beat the Broncs in the next three quarters of the game. The Broncs won the game due to three players in the double digit points range. The Burns/Pine Bluffs wrestling team competed last week in the Ron Thon Memorial Varsity tournament. The tournament brings in 39 teams from across the state and even a few from out of state to compete. The Burns/Pine Bluffs team did not fare as well as they would have liked but still did not do bad. The Lady Broncs traveled to Wheatland to take on the Lady Bulldogs in a conference game last Friday. The Lady Broncs were looking for a win. After their loss to Torrington last week they wanted some revenge and a win to put a saddle on. The Burns/Pine Bluffs Indoor track team traveled to Laramie to compete in the 307 Invitational 2022 Meet hosted by Laramie High School last Saturday. The team did very well.
