  • PBHS' Weller is a "Star of Tomorrow"

Jimmie Earls, Pine Bluffs Post Editor|Feb 11, 2016

Pine Bluffs High School ninth-grader Jason Weller is no stranger to taking the stage, and that confidence showed last Saturday as he competed in the 62nd Annual "Stars of Tomorrow" talent show by the Kiwanis Club of Cheyenne. Not only did Jason win the Senior High portion of the competition, but he also was awarded Best of Show. Weller took the stage wearing a black cowboy hat, jeans and a Motorhead t-shirt, strapped on a white Epiphone Les Paul Custom and wowed the crowd with his version of "Ho...

  • Congressional race is way more than Snow White and 10 dwarfs

    Bill Sniffin|Feb 11, 2016

Picture this: State Sen. Leland Christensen (R-Alta) is walking the neighborhoods of Worland knocking on doors. It is cold and snowy. He encounters “a friend of a friend” and they talk for 20 minutes. This is an example of politics in the least populated state in the country on some of the coldest and shortest days of the year. Christensen, like ten others, is seeking nomination for the state’s lone Congressional seat and he is working hard. He shares his story along with a photo of himse...

  • Winter safety means maintaining utility meters

    Black Hills Energy|Feb 11, 2016

Snow and ice buildup on your natural gas meter can create a safety hazard and even cut off the flow of natural gas to your heating and appliances. To avoid trouble, gently remove snow and ice from on and around the meter with your hands or a broom. Gas meters and regulators are durable and designed with the weather in mind, but a coating of ice or snow could cause a loss of service and become a critical safety issue. If at all possible, remove the snow before it has a chance to freeze. Gently...

  • High-scoring Hornet offense downs Southeast, Saratoga

    Patrick Cossel|Feb 11, 2016

The Pine Bluffs Hornets played host to Southeast Friday and dazzled the hometown crowd with their usual explosive offense. Four Hornets lit up the scoreboard with double-digit scoring as Hunter Thompson led with 30. Trent Werner had 14, Kyle Steger shot for 12 and Haize Fornstrom tallied 10. Wyatt Fornstrom rounded out the Hornets' scoring with two. It was a routing from the first tip off as the Hornets jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first. They added 18 more points in the second to go up...

  • Lady Hornets pull out overtime win against Southeast, down Saratoga

    Patrick Cossel|Feb 11, 2016

It was a close game last Friday, as the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets win an overtime thriller at home, against Southeast, 43-41. Three Lady Hornets hit double-digits in scoring, Sierra Shelit, Azhane Bufford, and Montanna Chrystal. The Lady Hornets found themselves on the losing side of the scoreboard at the half as they trailed Southeast 17-14. Southeast tried to break away from the persistent Lady Hornets but couldn't get the separation they needed. At the end of the third, their lead had shrunk,...

  • Lady Broncs drop two

    Patrick Cossel|Feb 11, 2016

A home game loss against Saratoga followed by a road loss to Lusk made for a tough week for the Burns Lady Broncs. The Lady Broncs kicked off their week at home, against Saratoga where they lost 26-22. This was clearly a defensive game as no team ran away with the score. This tightly contested match saw the Lady Broncs leading 11-9 at the half. Burns scored only two points in the third but gave up five points to the Lady Panthers and the lead. Offenses from both sides appear to break through the defensive lines as Burns scored nine in the...

  • Looking Back

    Feb 11, 2016

12 Years Ago February 13, 1941 County schools have small showing of tuberculosis The Wyoming Tuberculosis Association, assisted by representatives of the Laramie County Medical Society, have just completed a tuberculin testing survey of 20 rural schools and the town schools of Pine Bluffs, Egbert, Carpenter, Albin and Burns. A total of 775 students were tested and only two percent of the grade students showed positive reactions and three percent of the high school students. • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Feb 11, 2016

We may be Wildcats here in Albin, but on Super Bowl Sunday, many of us were Broncos. From Carol Sorensen to the Persons to the grade school students sporting orange and blue at school Friday, we all had Bronco fever. It seemed to be just what the doctor order, too. Most of us football fans knew once the first field goal went through the uprights in the early minutes of the first quarter, the game was going to bring a “Rocky Mountain High.” Some watched at home not to be disturbed by others more...

  • Broncs defeat Saratoga, lose tight one to Lusk

    Patrick Cossel|Feb 11, 2016

Three solid quarters of scoring was what it took for the Burns Broncs to gallop past the Saratoga Panthers, at home, Friday, 58-40. Burns started sluggish in the first quarter and then seemed to come alive for the rest of the game. Scoring an anemic six points in the first could have been their undoing but their defense stayed strong and held Saratoga to only eight. The second quarter saw the Broncs speed away from Saratoga as they tallied 17 points while holding Saratoga to eight. As the half-time buzzer sounded, Burns was in control with a...

  • No Till Notes: Water Conservation, Part 4

    Mark Watson|Feb 11, 2016

As I mentioned in previous articles, we view water conservation on our farm as a systems approach to saving water. Thus far I have talked about utilizing no-till crop production techniques to minimize soil disturbance and adopting a dynamic crop rotation. Another component to water conservation we have implemented is to produce a forage crop following our irrigated winter wheat harvest. I struggled with this decision since we are producing another crop on our irrigated acres which will require...
