  • Everyone has a Wyoming dog story: Here is mine from a few years ago

    Bill Sniffin|Mar 2, 2017

If there ever were a place that required everyone to own a dog, it probably would be Wyoming. This is a true dog-loving state. And everyone has his or her favorite dog story. Here is mine: Our old family dog, Shadow, had been listless and seemed not well for most of the long winter months. She had been diagnosed with cancer and even after surgery, the vet said there wasn’t much we could do about her condition. Her days were numbered. The dog seemed to know it, too, as she moped around. She har...

  • Endangered species: Making recovery a priority

    Sen. John Barrasso|Mar 2, 2017

As a doctor, if I treat 100 patients and just three recover enough to be discharged from the hospital, I would deserve to lose my medical license. A similar standard should apply to the Endangered Species Act. This law was meant to protect animals, plants, and other species identified as endangered or threatened with extinction. It also tried to conserve ecosystems upon which these species depend. A major goal of the Endangered Species Act is the recovery of species to the point that protection under the law is no longer necessary. Since the...

100 YEARS AGO March 1, 1917 SPEEDERS ANSWER TO COURT A short but interesting session of Judge Mann’s court was held yesterday morning, the occasion being a sort of reception to automobile speeders. While the ordinance forbids a speed greater than 10 mph, it is understood that the councilman are not going to be unreasonable about it, but are determined to prevent the running...

Perhaps someone shouldn’t have mentioned the fact that Spring was here. Maybe this year, Spring is similar to some folks trying to leave their house in the morning. They make a few trips back inside before leaving. It doesn’t mean we cannot say “Spring is on its way,” it just needs to get everything together. We wouldn’t want it to forget the flowers or the songbirds or the warm bright sunshine, would we? So, the winter door might swing open a few more times. And the good thing about s...
