  • Pickens plan for natural gas trucks has ramifications

    Bill Sniffin, www.billsniffin.com|Mar 7, 2013

It’s easy appreciating the energy conversion efforts by Texan T. Boone Pickens. His campaign to increase the use of natural gas powered vehicles is having some big effects across America and in Wyoming, too. Another champion of natural gas-powered vehicles has been Gov. Matt Mead who recently had his new state-authorized GMC Denali converted to run on compressed natural gas. A good example. A lot of state vehicles are making that switch, too. So why would Wyoming be logical place to use more n...

  • Give a man a fish, he'll make you dinner. Teach a man to fish, he’ll be gone every weekend.

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Mar 7, 2013

If my oldest was given a fish for dinner, you can bet fish patties would not be on the plate. But tuna or salmon patties are healthy, inexpensive, quick and simple to make. All that said, this recipe will not find its way to my future daughter-in-law’s kitchen. The cheapest kind of fish are the ones you catch, and not as they are thrown at you at the fish market. Not that we have one of those nearby. Even though our tundra is still frozen, ice fishing is just as productive and entertaining as i...

  • Banner News

    Barb Cross|Mar 7, 2013

Banner County has seen a big improvement in weather over this past week. A little preview of spring. Hopefully a lot of rain will soon be coming our way. I have a few chickens that fly the coop ‘bout every day until dusk and then fly back in, or take up residence in the barn. The past few days it has been so nice they have been having a great time out in my front yard, tearing up the g...

  • Looking Back

    Mar 7, 2013

1 years ago Washington, March 4. -In the presence of a vast throng of his fellow citizens, Woodrow Wilson today stood in front of the east portico of the capitol and took the oath of president of the United States. Thomas R. Marshall already had been sworn in as vice-president, and with the completion of the ceremony the ship of state was manned by the Democratic party, which had been ashore for sixteen years. President Wilson’s first act was to serve notice on office seekers that they will not be welcome at the White House unless they h...

  • No-till notes — Where are we headed?

    Mar 7, 2013

Over the past few articles I’ve written about how we developed a no-till cropping system for our farm. After a few years of using no till on our dry land acres, we adopted our irrigated acres to no-till production practices. We found the same benefits on our irrigated acres as we did on our dry land acres, so it made sense to put our irrigated acres into no-till crop production. After 20 years of no-till crop production I am very pleased that we adopted this practice on our farm. I really feel the no-till crop production practices kept us f...
