  • Local Knights of Columbus collect for military

    The call for donations is strong for the Knights of Columbus. Farther Killian Muli, the former pastor from Pine Bluffs has reached out to the local Knights of Columbus to solicit items for the 800 soldiers at Camp Casey in South Korea. Items they are looking for are tooth paste, tooth brushes, razors, socks, beef jerky, candy, Slim Jims, phone cards, etc.. If you chose to donate money it will be used to purchase these items.     On Sunday October 22 the Burns chapter of FFA (Future Farmers of America) will be headed to Indianapolis to compete in the National FFA Convention. Mr Craig Spatz, Burns area FFA advisor was very excited about taking the freshman and sophomores this year.     Standing tall, this lanky boy of 18 years entered into the Navy. Merlin Otto Marquart followed in his brother's footsteps as they led him to the Navy as his brother did out of high school. Marquart graduated high school in 1958 from Boulder High School in Besler, Nebraska. Marquart became a Navy corpsman. He served his time aboard the USS Lake Champlain.   • Equine quarantine lifted at LCCC

    CHEYENNE, WYO. — Following a recent incident on campus where an ill horse was put into isolation and other precautionary measures were taken, the quarantine for horses has been lifted at Laramie County Community College. Veterinarians, equine experts and college administration met to discuss the situation.   • Pine Bluffs/Burns Girls Cross Country take State victory for the 8th time

    Securing State for the 8th year in a row the Pine Bluffs/ Burns XC season comes to a finish. State for Cross Country was held in Sheridan, WY at the eye appealing VA hospital grounds. The boys team ran at 11 a.m. and the girls at 12:30 p.m. due to rotation of having the second race this year. Before each state race the teams like to start with a team workout.     During the home game against Glenrock the Lady Hornets lost in 5 rounds. "Unfortunately we allowed our mental errors to affect our ability to play," stated Coach Lisa Gilbert, "but they will be working very hard to fix their unforced errors." Although the Lady Hornets lost they still played hard and gave it their all. All players have their own specialties and strengths.     In a close game between our Pine Bluff Hornets and the Upton/Sundance Patriots, the Hornets proved again that they are still and will be the team to beat. With an all out team effort the Hornets beat the Patriots by a score of 28 to 14. However the game was not as lopsided and the score would seem to indicate. Neither team was able to take the advantage in the first quarter as it came to an end with neither team able to reach the end zone.
