It was great night with so many activities in the community. There was about 200 people that attended the dance at Burns North Complex. The Burns Lions Club had music and food for the evenings event. Kathleen Miller passed away at home on Tuesday February 21, 2023. She was born in Portland, OR on April 25, 1946 to Donald and Bernice McCarver She grew up in Fort Collins, CO and was employed by the City of Fort Collins. She had no children but she loved her many "Fur Babies". After moving to Pine Bluffs she owned the Sunset Hotel in Pine Bluffs for many years. Three Burns High School students had the honor to be chosen for the Dandies. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Dandies were founded in 1970. Arlene Kensinger was the one that started the drill team. The Dandies were formed to serve as goodwill ambassadors for the sport of rodeo and the western way of life. Kensinger had been interested in rodeo since she was teenager. The Meals on Wheels of Cheyenne held their annual March for meals to commemorate the anniversary of its inception in delivering more than meals to Laramie County residents in 1970. In March 1972 President Nixon signed into law nutrition that amended the Older American Act of 1965. But established a national program of the senior of 60 years and older. The kids were bouncing around, anxious to get on the lanes at Pine Bowl, in Pine Bluffs. The Eastern Laramie County Homeschool group took time to go bowling in March. Last week we talked primarily about getting a lawn started and annual fertilizing. The one thing I forgot to mention last week about fertilizing is that you should only fertilize in the spring and only once with a high Nitrogen fertilizer. If you use Nitrogen fertilizer later in the year it could slow down the lawn's move into dormancy because it will think it should still be growing. This will be the 50th year that the Shriners Bowl, also known as the Shrine Bowl All-Star Football game will be played. This is the high school equivalent to the pro football All-Star game. The Pine Bluffs Hornets boys track and field team traveled to Morrill, Nebraska for the Morrill Early Bird track and field meet. This is the first meet of the season for the running Hornets and the first time to stretch their wings against other teams. Although none of the individuals were able to break into the top three the 4x400m relay team was able to finish second in the meet. The Lady Hornets track and field team followed the boys to Morrill, NE., to compete in the Early Bird Invite. The girl's team has several stars including the Indoor Track High Jump state champion Alyssa Slade. She hit her record making mark of 5ft 2in to take first place in the event. The Burns Girls Track and Field team traveled the their counterparts at the Sidney Invite meet. The girls competed in the John Ganser Invite to hone their skills in the field and track events. Many of the girls were able to place in the top three positions with several others placing in the top 10. The Burns Broncs Track and Field team started practicing on March 13th for the 2023 season. They are looking forward to improving on their efforts and times. In the 2022 season the girls were ranked fifth and the boys team was ranked sixth. Last year was a good year for them and some individual efforts shined all the way to the State meet.
