Preston Harer reviewed the original plan to improve the existing trail to his property with the council Monday evening at the Pine Bluffs council meeting. Town administrator Caryn Miller said after council members physically looked at the property and reviewed the plats, Harer did encroach back on public property. Harer apologized for any miscommunication, but said he followed the specifications the town had for the trail. Councilman Mike Ragsdale said he wished the council had more... Full story

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 18, 2013

  • Living in the heart of country's gun culture

    Bill Sniffin, www.billsniffin.com|Apr 18, 2013

Some 63 percent of the 579,000 residents in Wyoming own guns. This is the highest percentage of any state in the USA. Perhaps it makes some sense to describe what living in the heart of America’s “gun culture” can be like during this time of national debate about guns and whether or not there is a need for national registry of gun owners. Having spent time in places like Great Britain where even the occasional hunting shotgun is a rarity, our gun culture can begin to seem a little odd, I... Full story

Why? Because that is how we are made. People from all over the globe were in Boston for the annual Patriot’s Day running of the Boston Marathon. Eagerly cheering on the runners crossing the finish line, the fans, athletes, volunteers and emergency services workers were...

Cynthia Shroyer, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 18, 2013

Jessica Loyd was unable to attend the meeting, but sent a list of needed items to start a daycare center. Loyd is currently providing daycare in her home and has a waiting list for more children in need of local daycare. Through her investigation of needs to start a business in the Burns-Plex, Loyd discovered she would need a stove, triple-sink, a stove hood, and a sanitation...

  • Banner News

    Barb Cross|Apr 18, 2013

The foot or so of wet snow we had last week was welcome; even it meant closing the town for three days. If the forecast they have out now comes through more is on its’ way. There were several postponements last week and one of them was the FFA Banquet. It has been rescheduled for tonight, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. School did resume last week for Kindergarten Round-Up and 10 youngsters were in attendance with their parents in tow. Nine boys and one girl. This is likely to change by next August,...

  • Am I talking the walk, or walking the walk?

Cynthia Shroyer, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 18, 2013

My family, like most others who have or will walk this planet, have experienced a life full of trouble. I can’t really say I know anyone who has lived a “charmed” life. Blessed yes, charmed no. We Christ followers have a bad tendency to think that we should be blessed beyond anyone else. That people should actually see how much God loves us by how successful. We believe that we should have not just all we need, but all we want and ask for; and by the way, no troubles please. Smooth...

  • Go green or go home

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 18, 2013

Ho, Ho, Ho! Yeah, no, I haven’t lost my calendar in the spring snow. I was trying for the “Green Giant.” Earth Day is Monday, April 22. A day for dusting off the carbon footprint on our boots and take a breath of fresh clean air Mother Nature provides for us. Recycling, using our bodies energy to get us where we are going instead of fuels, turning off the lights and turning on the solar panels are great ways to help momma earth stay clean. Another way to help the earth is to eat...

  • No-till notes - irrigated no-till economics, part II

    Mark Watson|Apr 18, 2013

Jessica Johnson, UNL agricultural educator at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center located in Scottsbluff has compiled budgets for the majority of the irrigated crops commonly grown here in our region. I’d like to take a look at these budgets that compare strip till, conventional tillage, and no-till crop production systems. Jessica’s budgets assume equal use of irrigation in producing these crops. When you compare these budgets you also need to factor in that the no-till crop...
