Another year and another convention has passed, and Rachel Derner, a senior at Burns Junior-Senior High School, is just getting started at the State FFA Reporter for 2015-2016. Derner, who has been a member of FFA for the past six years said she loves being part of a group which promotes youth leadership, where she has has the opportunity to meet many people who have been involved in FFA and gone on to accomplish great things. • Promoting your favorite place: Maybe it is better than Mars?

    Bill Sniffin|Apr 30, 2015

Wyoming is such a special place. At least it certainly is to me. Yet I often get into an argument with various folks when I put our “low-population, high-empty space place” on a pedestal. This happened two weeks ago when my column talked about Wyoming exceptionalism, through our Universal Truths and Fundamental Values. Are we special or not? One critic, who I respect very much, said in the circles that he runs in, well, my conclusions were met with derision, especially any reference to Equ...

  • Pine Bluffs Invitational hosts seven teams

    Polly Taylor|Apr 30, 2015

Considering they were on their own turf, and it had been two weeks since their last meet due to weather, the Pine Bluffs boys and girls arose to the challenge of competing against six other schools in the Pine Bluffs Invitational last Friday, placing first and second in team rankings. Montanna Chrystal, Brooke Darden and Jadyn Golding all qualified in the 100m Dash preliminaries, and all three earned points in the finals, with Chrystal placing first, Darden second and Golding sixth. In the 200m...

  • Burns girls take first at Pine Bluffs meet

    Polly Taylor|Apr 30, 2015

In a close run for the finish line, literally, the Burns girls edged out the Pine Bluffs team by a mere half-point to take first place over 17 events, and in a field of seven teams on a day that started out good for a track meet. The weather held off long enough for all of the athletes to finish their events before heading home, unlike the week before when the Glenrock meet was postponed due to the weather. Coach Brooks Hoffman said, "The team put up a number of quality marks to make the meet a...

    Barb Cross|Apr 30, 2015

ome prayers were answered, we have had rain for four days straight. Puddles everywhere, stuck vehicles, wet dogs and muddy floors. Trees and fields, lawns and flowers all looking so much brighter. The dust has finally settled and allergies have backed off. We have mowed the lawn twice and when it dries up we will give it another go. We are happy to say that friends and neighbors, Ruth Brown, Maxine Brown, and baby Cady McGowan are all feeling better and on the mend. We are sorry to say that...

    Charlene Smith|Apr 30, 2015

What a colorful and exciting time of year in Albin. The fields of green are bordered with fields of deep rich brown soil freshly tilled and waiting for the seeds of summer to be plunked down. The little sprouts of our town are having their spring concert at the elementary school Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. That is the same evening as the monthly town council meeting. Of course, family and little ones come first, so the council meeting has been moved from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The council has two...

  • Rights or Responsibilities?

    Apr 30, 2015

To the Editor: There has been some discussion concerning the law and whether or not persons should be allowed to drive golf carts on the streets without a license plate or a driver's license. Whether or not the laws allow a person to drive a golf cart or other vehicle on their private property without a driver's license, responsible adults should be making wise and safe decisions for their children and grandchildren. As far as driving on the public streets, clearly the law provides that children need to be protected. The law requires that child...
