  • Wyoming's first serial killer....huh?

    Bill Sniffin|May 21, 2015

It is hard to find any evidence of some mysterious serial killings that allegedly occurred in Wyoming 147 years ago. According to a couple of books, a notorious family named Bartlett killed 22 young men before being hunted down and killed back in historic South Pass City. Following is the straight story, according to the authors of the books. At the end of this, we have some dissenting comments. Most of the crimes centered on pretty Polly Bartlett who was adept with arsenic. From 1866 to 1868, S...

  • Just a Few Thoughts...

    Polly Taylor|May 21, 2015

Well, the ceremonies are over and done for another year – graduation ceremonies this is – and it's time to break out the 'pic-a-nic' baskets (I always loved when Yogi Bear talked about 'pic-a-nic' baskets), the sun screen, lawn chairs and all the other accoutrements that go along with summer. But I digress. Superintendent Jack Cozort, who will shortly be entering his last month, officially, with our school district gave away his age when he announced this past weekend, in Pine Bluffs and Bur...

  • No Till Notes: Observations, Part 2

    Mark Watson|May 21, 2015

Last week I discussed how we approach fertilizing our winter wheat crop following field peas in our winter wheat, corn, field pea and then back to winter wheat crop rotation on our continuous no-till dry land acres. We have been using this rotation for the past 9 years on our farm and we’re starting to see some long term effects from this rotation. One observation is cheat grass working its way into a few fields within this rotation. Cheat grass has always been a problem in winter wheat p...

  • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|May 21, 2015

Good morning Banner County, friends and neighbors! Well, we sure have had some weird weather, right? I just finished looking at this weeks' forecast in two different places and one says possible storms and the other one says snow. Well, I hope the snow is for Alaska and not Nebraska 'cause I am sick and tired of it. Guess if it snows that will just be tough nookies for me. So, school is winding down. Matter of fact, today, Thursday, May 21, at 11:50 a.m., the big yellow buses will be going...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|May 21, 2015

Spring shows itself in so many different forms. For some, it is the end of calving season capped off with branding and working or moving herds to green pastures for the summer. Others know it is spring when they start tilling rich brown soil to plant their future harvest and get rained out more times than bags of seeds. But some recognize spring as a time of moving part of their herd on to another pasture and also watching their seeds of love turn into grown up members of society. This past...
