A Burns native is repeating history as he helps put in the new Burns High School's football field and track, just as he did 43 years ago. Les Horst, project superintendent of Knife River, helped install a track and field at Burns in 1971 when he was going to be a freshmen at Burns High School. The Pine Bluffs Council approved on second reading of the Fiscal Year 2014/15 Budget during Monday’s town meeting. Changes had been made to the budget before it was approved. The third and final reading of the Fiscal Year 2014/15 Budget will be on Monday, June 16 at the Town meeting. The RV Park has been separated as its own stand alone fund. The first reading proposed the RV Park expenses to add up to $31, 743.08, which would be its share out of the general fund. Ruth Shepard, 93, of Westminster, Calif., passed peacefully on Jan. 5, 2014. Ruth was born to Fred and Ella Brodine, July 15, 1920, in Elm Creek, Neb. She attended school in Pine Bluffs and married Harry Stahla in 1939. They resided in the Kimball area. She had three children (Harry, Marilyn, and Barbara). Double Bar G held its second rodeo on Friday night and the rain did not stop cowboys and cowgirls from having fun. One cowboy who wouldn't let the rain stop him from competing was Logan Young. A hardware store that contributed to the development of Pine Bluffs is going out of Business. Lipps Lumber and Hardware's last day of business will be on Saturday, June 7. Lipps' only store is in Pine Bluffs. The business provided parts to clients in town as well as surrounding areas. When Lipps opened five years ago, it was a booming store because Pine Bluffs had a good housing market. But after the housing went down, it wasn't enough to carry the business. This summer, get out of town and enjoy some new activities. The Pine Bluffs Recreational Center has planned bus trips that will take residents to fun, summer-time destinations. The bus trips are scheduled for once a month throughout the summer. The recreation center gives residents the opportunity to get out of town for the day and do an activity that isn’t available to do everyday. About 40 years ago, Alyce Krakow was sending her children to school. Living out in the country, far out, the school district gave the Krakow’s two options; drive a bus or drive their children to meet the closest bus. The Texas Trail Ringnecks hosted its annual Days in the Wild May 20 and 21 for Laramie County School District 2 students. Kids from kindergarten through sixth grade participated in the event. With the help of many volunteers, the Texas Trail Ringnecks put on the two-day event without a problem. More than 500 students went through all nine stations, and everything went smoothly. The 2014 Farm Bill makes the Livestock Forage Disaster Program and Livestock Indemnity Payments permanent programs. The Farm Bill provides retroactive authority to cover eligible losses back to Oct. 1, 2011. The Livestock Forage Disaster Program provides compensation to eligible livestock producers who suffered grazing losses due to drought or fire.
