Let's take a trip back through time, when life seemed simpler and the land much less congested. A time when progress was exciting and folks were thrilled with electricity in their homes and indoor plumbing. At the Texas Trail Museum in Pine Bluffs a visitor can see the old times along with some of the fairly new. Lets face it though, the world has come a long, long way since way back then. And when we say a simpler time, well that's one persons own opinion. A farmer walking behind a plow with a...

  • More questions than answers

    Forrest Hershberger|Jul 8, 2021

When life appears normal, and suddenly isn't, the door opens for countless questions, questions that often go unanswered. The sudden loss of a close friend or family member makes those questions even more glaring. The family of Cheyenne "Chey" Matthews faced these questions recently when they received the phone call every parent dreads. Their beloved daughter died by her own means on June 19. Chey as her friends and family called her was born in Sturgis, S.D., and grew up close to motorcycles....

    Forrest Hershberger|Jul 8, 2021

The loss of a loved one leads to a multitude of questions and emotions. Among them are the “20-20 hindsight” questions. They “If only I had...” “Why didn’t I..?” “Why didn’t he (or she)...?” The survivor’s guilt as some call it, can result in a trauma of its own, according to Nichole Peralta of Karuna Counseling in Sidney. Peralta is a therapist and trauma specialist. “I think hindsight is horrible,” she said. Peralta and Liz Borgmann, who is the local volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and organizer, met June 29 to...

  • Firewise Planning

Mike Heath Laramie County Master Gardners|Jul 8, 2021

I was fortunate to be invited to attend the Fire District 10 Annual Awards Picnic recently. Actually, Linda was invited and I attended as the Plus 1. If you don't know where District 10 is at they cover a huge area from I80 to Colorado and from Otto Road to Albany County, mostly mountainous terrain. Firefighters have a special place in my heart since I've worked so closely with them in emergency management over the years. District 10 is a bit unusual in their awards picnic/banquet in that they...

Puddle Jumpers! Not frogs, they are kids, children, little ones who start swimming on July 5th from 11:30 to 12:00. About fifteen little ones were at the edge of the shallow end of the pool. Some had moms and dads and others had grandmothers. They all encouraged the little ones to get into the water. At this age all of the students had to have inflated arm floats. Each life guard that was in the pool maintained three or four students. Their first task was getting in the water. Which most were...

A few ran up and down the court. A few hit the court. Some ran around a diamond. Others threw a pigskin to other...

    Mike Heath|Jul 8, 2021

Is there more to the COVID vaccine than we are being told? I’m curious. I’ve never thought highly of the conspiracy theorists. Yet, with COVID, I’m left scratching my head. I haven’t heard any conspiracy theorists come forward yet but there are a lot of unanswered questions, particularly with the COVID vaccines. This is the most deadly set of vaccines in the United States in more than 20 years. As of May 21, 2021 there have been 4,406 deaths recorded in the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). That’s only four months of r...
