  • Medicine Wheel is America's Stonehenge; Long dusty hike is well worth the effort

    Bill Sniffin|Jul 28, 2016

So, there I was. Hiking as fast as I could at 9,642 feet above sea level. This was a spooky, surreal and spiritual place. This is America’s Stonehenge, the famous Medicine Wheel, high in the mountains between Lovell and Sheridan. And I was totally alone. The sun was going down. It was breezy and getting cool. My chest ached from walking along this lonely ridgeline as fast as my 61-year old legs could take me. It was September 2007. I had been trying to drive from Jackson to Gillette in one...

Don was born in Wheatland on August 5, 1921 to Charles and Nora Morse. He graduated from Carpenter High School in 1939, served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged to return home to help his father with the family farm. • Malfunctioning electronic system causes town water tank to blow its lid

    Zach Spadt, Pine Bluffs Post|Jul 28, 2016

A malfunctioning telemetry system caused a 600,000 gallon water tank used to store drinking water for Pine Bluffs to blow its lid. Fortunately, however, the town was just preparing to bring a new 300,000 gallon tank online. In an email to the Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board, Charles Lidstone, Town Engineer, said the problem began when the telemetry system failed, allowing water to be pumped from the wells at a rate of 900 gallons per-minute, causing the water to hit the 24-gauge mesh scr...

  • Get ready for Trail Days next week

    Zach Spadt, Pine Bluffs Post|Jul 28, 2016

Entering its 66th year, much has changed with Pine Bluffs Trail Days, and a lot hasn't. When the Laramie County Fair moved from Pine Bluffs to Cheyenne in the late 1940s, Pine Bluffs residents still wanted to have their own celebration. From that, Pine Bluffs Trail Days was born. With 66 years to grow, numerous events have been added. In the 1980s, the mainstay mud volleyball tournament was added to the schedule of events. The one-day event has grown to a five-day event, and it includes a...

  • Three PBHS coaches named Coach of the Year

    Zach Spadt, Pine Bluffs Post|Jul 28, 2016

Three Pine Bluffs High School coaches were recently named Wyoming Coach of the Year, but they all insist the honor lies with their athletes. Both girls and boys basketball coaches Will Gray and Lindsey Forbes were named Wyoming Coach of the year for coaching boys and girls basketball, respectively. Both their teams won state titles. Forbes said all the credit goes to the athletes. "Really, the kids do all the work. "It's nice to win this award, but it wouldn't be possible without the athletes,"...

A Laramie County native and Cheyenne firefighter is running for the Laramie County Board of Commissioners. Republican Kevin Tighe spoke with the Pine Bluffs Post this week and said he is running for the board of commissioners to bring a citizen’s perspective to local government. “I’m running as a citizen, not a politician,” Tighe said. • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|Jul 28, 2016

Good morning, Banner County! I hope you are all doing well. I cannot hardly believe that this is the last week of July, but that is what my calendar is saying. Another clue is all of the harvesting that has been going on, plus county fairs that are popping up all over the place. I still have many things to finish, so I am hoping for a late fall. I realize in talking this way I seem to be forgetting August. I am not. It is just that with our fair in August and school starting three days later...

About 50 miles west of us there is a little rodeo going on for 10 days. Cheyenne Frontier Days is a great opportunity for family and friends to get their cowboy on. Many of our neighbors volunteer their time, contributing to the 2,500 volunteers who keep the fun rolling. Whether you volunteer or just wander through the exhibits and villages, and take in a rodeo and show, CFD is like a big ol’ backyard. Lassoing another year is Kaden Malm on August 1 and Melissa Nichols August 5. Lots of cake...

  • Looking Back

    Jul 28, 2016

100 Years Ago July 27, 1916 The creamery will soon be built While the board of directors of the creamery company realize that on account of the dry spell it is rather discouraging to go ahead with the creamery, they feel that this is one of the great needs of this section and it will be all the more needed on account of short crops. They are determined to go ahead with the work of building the creamery, if possible. At the directorship last week, it was decided to incorporate the company under the cooperative incorporative law of the state...
