  • PARROT BAY RESCUE FOUNDATION MOVES TO PINE BLUFFS

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Aug 15, 2019

Did you know that a parrot can live until he or she is 80 to 100 years old? This information gives a better understanding as to how these birds can be abandoned so often. According to Tina and Dale Godfrey "85% of parrots are resold, given away, or abandoned within two years of being purchased." With odds like that, it's easy to see how the Parrot Bay Rescue Foundation came to be. The Godfreys are new to Pine Bluffs all the way from Nevada and they brought with them their very special, very...

  • New Council member sworn in at Burns town council

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Aug 15, 2019

Monday evenings town council meeting opened up with the swearing in of the newly appointed councilman Jeff Appleman. Appleman is a welcome member to the council and we look forward to having him serve. Jeff Bartels informed council that as of last meeting he has halted all use of personal vehicles when responding to an emergency. This has caused some issues as Bartels is the only EMT that lives in Burns, and others are not responding to calls as they have no other transportation to the scene...

  • Bluffs Insurance has new owner

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Aug 15, 2019

The Bluffs Insurance Agency is getting a new face! Since 1977 local folks have known and worked with Rob Stevens, and now after all this time, he has finally decided to retire. Aaron Knifong (pronounced "Knife - on") is a Sheridan College alumnus, a past rodeo cowboy for the Generals Rodeo Team, and an insurance veteran having owned his own insurance company for the past 3 and a half years. Knifong would like the residents in Pine Bluffs to know that he is a dedicated agent, and looks to keep...

  • Creating a new path... or changing horses in midstream

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Aug 15, 2019

When I was a child I played Yatzee with my mother. Sometimes in my second roll I would change my mind as to what I was shooting for and my mother would inevitably say, "Never change horses in the middle of the stream." Now I am not sure if this is something she made up, or if it was one of those oldie but goodie cliches that she seemed to always have in her proverbial pocket, but her meaning was that I shouldn't stray from the path that I had already chosen. As I enter into what I would...

  • Fall is for Harvest

Mike Heath Laramie County Master Gardners|Aug 15, 2019

Okay. So it’s not quite fall yet. But the harvest appears to be pretty bountiful already. I’m not growing much variety this year, but I’ve already canned 93 quarts of dill pickles and the cucumbers are just getting started. They aren’t even close to their peak yet. I’m hoping for about 400 quarts. Then I won’t plant cucumbers for a few years. Hmm. Make that quite a few years. If they’re still coming in what do I do with all the bounty? A few weeks ago I wrote about supporting your local farmers...

  • Employment Support Program assists Veterans and others with employment

    Victoria Smithey Pine Bluffs Post|Aug 15, 2019

In 2018 there were 326,000 unemployed veterans in the United States. Of that number 60% were 45 years old and up, 35% were 25 to 44, and 6% were 18 to 24. While these numbers seem staggering, believe it or not, they’re actually improving. Veteran homelessness has decreased by 5.4% since 2017, and 11,000 homeless vets found jobs through vet services. One of these services is the Employment Support Program (ESP) of Cheyenne run by Cheryl Burd. When separating from the military veterans are not always aware of how their jobs will translate into t...
