They hosted an ice cream booth in the park during Pine Bluffs Trails Days this year, as one of their fund raisers. The Pine Bluffs Senior Center was honoring the teacher's with a welcome back to school breakfast on August 18th at 7:00 a.m. The Pine Bluffs Senior Center board served the teacher's a delicious, nutritious breakfast. The tables were packed with items covering every inch in the Hillsdale Methodist Church hall. The Hillsdale Ladies hold this garage sale every year to raise money for scholarships and families that need help in the community. The ladies just ask community members to bring in their unwanted items. Some people even set up booths of their own. The first items that went right away were a few church pews. This is the first year I've tried potatoes so I'm completely unfamiliar with growing and harvesting. So far, the growing piece of the equation seems to be going well. The plants are about two and a half feet tall and lush. I've been able to keep the potato beetles off so they even have most of their foliage. The park was full of people at Grover, Colorado. It was the annual Grover Day on August 27th. Grover Day started in 2004. In June was the Memorial Rodeo, but Grover Day is a time for the town to just have fun as a community. Of course, they invited anyone and everyone to come and have fun with the community. This year the town of Grover added four new horseshoe stakes and pits. There were 18 people that entered the horseshoe tournament. It went fast this year compared to last year. This was a one on one tournament as opposed to a team. No partner to help out, you were on your own. Scott and Doug Duggan have been competing for years taking turns on who wins. The Hornets played their first football game of the season on Friday, August 26th at home. It was a scrimmage game against Lingle and did not count toward their season record but was a good time to get the team back in the mindset of playing the game again. There were lots of personnel changes and coaches were there on the field to help the players in positioning and techniques. The National Truck Driving Championships were held in Indianapolis, Indiana, August 16-19, 2022 where cones were strategically placed and the trucks were ready to roll. An honored Wyoming trucker came home a third place winner. The American Trucking Association hosted the National Truck Driving Championships for a competition for professional truck drivers. The Burns Lady Broncs started off the volleyball season with the Douglas Tournament held in Douglas. The tournament hosted Wheatland, Southeast, Buffalo and Douglas last Saturday, August 27th. The Broncs did well and learned areas that they will need to improve on. The first game of the tournament was against the Wheatland Bulldogs. The smell of smoked meat was in the air at Grover Day. It was due to the fifth annual BBQ cook-off that raises money for the school in Grover. This starts around 11:00 p.m. with the first category. This year there were eight different teams competing. They were Smoka Sauruses, Barbie Q, Just Smokin, Star-B-Que, Stormin Bar-B-Que, Frank-n-Beans, Blowin' Smoke, and Bull-B-Que. PB/B XC Update August 26, 2022 AND we’re back!!! I am sure that you have missed my thesis style updates from the XC Team. This year they may increase in size due to the sheer volume of our roster. We have 52 harriers this year 6th grade-12th grade. It is so amazing. Quick hitters (for my people who need the twitter version) JH are running machines. Football season has started. Burns Junior High had their first football game with the honor of being first on the field this year. They played Glenrock. You never know how the team is until after the first game. In the first quarter the teams seemed to be pretty well matched. The costumes were colorful and the feet were moving with the rhythm of the music. During Bushnell Days the Los Guadalupanos traditional Folkloric Dancers from Gering, Nebraska performed.
