    Carolyn Ragsdale|Sep 19, 2013

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Shirley Wiggin read “Time” and Carol Opdycke read a news item about Australia. The sermon topic was “Care, Comfort, Power.” Pastor Opdycke used scriptures from Luke 12:13-21, Luke 16:19-31, and James 5:1-6 which all deal with the rich who do not care about others. The rich are not to use their power in the wrong way. They are to care about others and not be greedy. They are to provide comfort when they can. We were reminded of the terrib...

  • 'Holy Butterscotch, Batman' Day

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Sep 19, 2013

If you read me every week, which I thank you for that, you know I mentioned the goto favorite family potluck dessert recipe. I found a chocolate version of my butterscotch hit on the internet called a “moon cake.” I substitute butterscotch for the chocolate because I have a good friend in Albin who, dare I say this out loud, hates chocolate. During the forenoon the exhibits of grain and vegetables were placed in position. Saturday the program was carried out by speaking: ball games, races and band music. Both evenings there were...

A report was released a couple years ago that showed the results of a survey done by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. The results were a tad disheartening. Asked 32 questions of varying difficulty about the world’s religions, Protestant and Roman Catholic respondents came out at the bottom of the learning curve — they couldn’t even provide correct information about their own religious beliefs. It’s pretty bad when you can’t name the first book of the Bible or the name of the Islamic h...

  • No-till notes - pea harvest

    Mark Watson|Sep 19, 2013

Yellow field pea producers in this region have finished their 2013 harvest which produced good results despite the challenges Mother Nature had in store for this growing season. Throughout my travels around the Panhandle looking at this year’s field pea crop I thought many first time field pea growers did an outstanding job of producing their first field pea crop. There will be a learning curve this first year and I expect any production problems that occurred will be corrected next spring. Y...
