  • Our Old Wyoming is changing into New Wyoming right under our noses

    Bill Sniffin|Oct 23, 2014

No, I am not running for any political office, but lately we have been all over Wyoming and what we have seen is very impressive. In Gillette for a state tourism summit, we heard Mary Silvernell of the Campbell County Lodging Board say that lodging tax receipts are at “an all-time high.” It is not tourists who are filling all those hotel rooms, but workers in the oil and gas industry. It appears the Powder River Basin is enjoying that similar kind of boom as that is occurring up north in...

  • Marriage Equality Coming to Wyoming

    Submitted|Oct 23, 2014

WASHINGTON – U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl ruled against Wyoming’s law banning marriage equality for same-sex couples earlier this week. In Guzzo v. Judge Skavdahl granted a temporary stay and the ruling will not go into effect until Oct. 23 or until state government officials say they are not appealing the decision. In his ruling,...

  • Good food is no fairy tale

    Charlene Smith|Oct 23, 2014

Once upon a time there lived a talented cook. She could bake rolls in minutes, whip up a fancy dessert without getting her kitchen messy. And she always had enough food in the pantry for anything she wanted to make. So, most of us don’t live in that fairy tale. That doesn’t mean you still can’t have a happy ending to a long day with a great meal. It has a lot to do with having the right tools. A magic wand isn’t necessary. Crock pots are a useful tool to have in your kitchen and have alw...

  • Banner Co. News

    Barb Cross|Oct 23, 2014

Hello out there, wherever you are. Last week, I mentioned the signs of the changing seasonthat are all around us – the leaf colors and cooler temps. Well here is another sign: I was in a store last Friday, at that time the third week of the month of October mind you, and guess what? If you guessed Christmas trees, etc. you are right. I get more and more turned off by all of that each year. They really are trying to steal all of the beauty and joy out of that time with their commercialism. Anyw...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Oct 23, 2014

Rolling down the streets of Albin, you might think there isn’t any business going on. Granted many buildings on Main Street that once supported solid commerce sit empty and lonely. However, there are many businesses that are run from a pickup truck or garage here in town. If you need help around the house, yard work, possibly a mechanic or even a dinner catered or a birthday cake baked, talk to you neighbors before heading to town. The price and service just might surprise you. The Albin...

  • Hereford News

    Carolyn Ragsdale|Oct 23, 2014

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Steve Hauer played a humerus tape about rattlesnakes. The sermon topic was “No Other Name.” The scripture was from Acts chapters 3 and 4. Acts 4:12 says “Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.” There are many scriptures that confirm this. Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried. Then He rose from the grave. That is factual. It is also scriptural. To believe in Jesus is...

  • Looking Back

100 years ago Oct. 23, 1914 Mr. Wiliam Scheutz, of near Egbert, received a check for $2 last Friday from Douglas, Wyo., as first prize on corn exhibited at the State Fair. He also took first premium on corn at Laramie Co. Fair at Burns. Mr. Scheutz, for several years has paid considerable attention to the raising of corn and has made a success of it. He started in by securing the best pure seed possible that could be successfully grown in this section and by carefully selecting his seed each year and grading up he has succeeded in producing a...

  • No Till Notes: Rotations

    Mark Watson|Oct 23, 2014

The final stop on our tour at the Dakota Lakes Research Farm in Pierre, S.D., was a look at the dry land portion of the farm. I’ve always felt dry land farming is much more interesting than irrigated farming. The ability to irrigate can mask some deficiencies in cropping rotation and soil health. On dry land acres, there is much less room for error. Proper management of crop rotations is critical to the success of a continuous no-till cropping system. Lack of carbon inputs, lack of sufficient...
