Halloween is right around the corner with activities being planned in Burns, Albin and Pine Bluffs. Governor Matt Mead has selected Paul Phillips as Circuit Court Judge for the Sixth Judicial District in Campbell County. Phillips fills the vacancy created by Judge Terrill Tharp’s retirement effective January 1, 2017. Phillips has engaged in the private practice of law in Gillette for over 10 years. Governor Matt Mead held a press conference this past Monday to discuss the latest update from the Consensus Revenue Estimating Group (CREG). The CREG’s October report is a projection of state revenues used to help shape the state budget. The report shows a General Fund shortfall of approximately $156 million for the remainder of the 2017/2018 Biennium. This week at the Hereford Community Church Donna Hoke was celebrating her birthday and Donna and Mel Hoke celebrated their anniversary. High West Energy of Pine Bluffs was awarded by the Wyoming United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as the state's "Cooperative Partnership of the Year" award Monday morning during a brief ceremony at the company's headquarters. High West Energy received a Rural Economic Development Loan earlier this year from USDA. The Pine Bluffs–Burns boys' team competed in the Wyoming 2A State Cross Country meet Saturday in Sheridan at the Veteran's Hospital. Coming in overall in the eighth spot, the team had a total of 155 points with a total time accumulation of 1:24:34.04. The Burns Lady Broncs traveled to Yoder Friday, Oct. 21 for a conference game against the Southeast Lady Cyclones and came home with a loss in three sets. The first set was intense, but Southeast got the upper hand, winning 26-24. The second set proved to be tight, but the Lady Cyclones got the upper hand, winning 25-20.
