Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 7, 2013

A registered voter takes her turn at the Pine Bluffs polls Tuesday morning. On the ballot was only one item, whether to accept a bond for Laramie County Community College to build a new student center and technology building. LCCC proposed to build the new facilities with the help of tax levies not to exceed $25,000,000. By 9 a.m. 20 voters had cast their ballots in Pine Bluffs, and Albin had 2 before 9 a.m. Check on the county web site, http://www.laramiecountyclerk.com/elections.aspx for the...

  • Water purchases and improvements drench council

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 7, 2013

The Pine Bluffs council had an agenda heavy with invoices to approve Monday evening at their regular meeting. But it wasn't the invoices and the decrease in the budget that concerned the council. Mayor Bill Shain told the council the Wyoming Water Development Commission staff was not recommending the land and well water purchase the Town of Pine Bluffs was planning. "It might just be a political play by the director," explained Shain. "And we have had proposals approved without staff... Full story

  • Wintry Autumn weather makes old men grumpy

    Bill Sniffin, www.billsniffin.com|Nov 7, 2013

The boys down at the coffee shop were in a grumpy mood earlier on this day. They had just endured their fourth heavy wet snowstorm. And it was just Oct. 28! As I write this, I am looking out my window at my poor trees, once again, leaning over almost to the ground. Their leaves covered with frozen snow and many more limbs broken. Our coffee bunch, also known as The Fox News All-Stars, can be surly. You will hear these guys complaining just about everything. Lately the complaints have been...

  • Washington Report

    Senator John Barrasso|Nov 7, 2013

A majority of people in Wyoming have rightly expressed skepticism about the President's promises that his health care law would lower premiums and let them keep their health plan if they like it. This month's disastrous rollout of the health care law's insurance exchanges only confirmed their concerns. October did bring some positive news for our state. Important helium legislation was signed into law that provides Wyoming with additional abandoned mine land (AML) funding and establishes a...

  • Digging to the core of education

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 7, 2013

Imagine your child's education is held in a sheet of paper. Now, imagine every child has to accept this piece of paper in order to receive their education. How would you make it unique for each student? How could you deliver the information? Is there any way you can change it without altering it from its original form. Imagine now, a paper plane floating through the air to a student who learns by seeing. Imagine a paper boat being blown across a table by a student who learns by doing. And imagin...

The undefeated Burns Broncs football team flew in on a high note as they hosted Thermopolis in the first playoff game, Friday, Nov. 1. However, the flight, and the remarkable season, came to an end in front of the disappointed but proud home fans as Thermopolis won the game 20-12. Thermopolis will now move on to play Mountain View on Friday. With Wyatt Berg out due to an injured ankle and others on the team limping to the sidelines, the Broncs lost their tell-tale rhythm that served them eight v...

Good morning! What a chilly morning it is, the time has changed and so has the weather. No more sandals, for a few months anyway. Some trouble caused a total blackout here in Harrisburg last Sunday evening. We had two extra kids at our house and with the four of them it was pretty exciting. I am not sure how long it lasted, but the kids pulled out blankets and pillows (because we had a generator hooked up & lights in the living room) they all piled in there, while I got my flash light and we...

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Carolyn Ragsdale read about All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day which are November 1 and 2.  The sermon topic for the day was "Worship." Worship happens when we have a deep reverence and adoration for God. There are certain blessings you get from worshiping God in Church. We are born to glorify God and worship Him as the Holy Spirit leads us.  Pastor Opdycke gave the story of King Josiah of Judah from 2 Kings 22 and 23. King Josiah h...

    Monte Lerwick and Charlene Smith|Nov 7, 2013

It was a little dark and spooky Sunday evening. No, no goblins were the cause. They had their fill of tricks and treats at the Albin Community Center Fall Festival Saturday night. The electricity went out Sunday evening for about four hours. No word yet on the why, just glad the "powers" that be got it fixed. Happy Belated Birthday, Ron Lerwick! He turned 60 and there was a sloppy joe pot luck at the community center last Sunday evening in his honor. Corn harvest is in full swing, lots of down...

  • 'Surprise, Surprise' for local librarian

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 7, 2013

In 1985, Burns Elementary librarian Diana Coulter went to England with her high school choir. While there, Coulter and the other singers stayed with host families. Coulter remembers the trip as a "fantastic opportunity" to see England and kept in contact with her host family for the past 28 years. "She (host mother Yvette) always refers to me as her American daughter, and she is my British Mum," said Coulter with a smile, "A few months ago, Rebecca, her daughter, contacted me and told me she was...

The Bountiful Baskets program in Burns was a success for me and I encourage others to try it. I received fruit and vegetables and my family has used it all. I was impressed with how well organized everyone was. I parked at the Burns-Plex, stood in line, picked up my groceries and was back in my car in about 15 minutes. A very nice young man even carried my sacks to the car! The website is http://bountifulbaskets.org/ and the baskets are $15.00 each. A person must place an order the Monday...

Students are answering that call, evidenced by an explosion in FFA membership throughout the U.S. Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in the past year. Membership in FFA today stands at 579,678 students in grades seven...
