  • Where were you when JFK was killed?

    Bill Sniffin, www.billsniffin.com|Nov 21, 2013

Just about everybody who was alive in America in the last 40 years can remember a pivotal life event that occurred on Nov 22, a half century ago. Where were you when President John Kennedy was killed? My story is somewhat unique and so are many others. Clay James of Jackson was in the Marines. His officers armed him and the rest of the soldiers with wooden rifles and sent them to the coastline. They thought the Russians might be invading us. This was in the height of the Cold War. Such an event...

  • Smoke from a distant fire or poor air quality

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 21, 2013

A few months ago I heard someone talking about the Environmental Protection Agency or the Department of Environmental Quality checking Wyoming's air quality. The test was very scientific. These scientists stood in one location, Location A, and focused on another point, Location B. And they did this random times over a few months span this summer. Or so I heard. The report from this very resourceful and intelligent study was that Wyoming's air quality was "poor to very poor." They could barely...

  • Letter to the editor

    Nov 21, 2013

When I was hired I had a vision of bringing respect and trust to the police department. I believe I accomplished this goal and have received positive feedback and support from the citizens and local law enforcement agencies. Developing relationships with the school and businesses was one of my priorities. Assisting the school in emergency policies and training helped in building a great relationship. I sent one of our officers to school resource officer certification to complete that goal the...

If you need general assistance such as questions or concerns or need to report a non-emergent situation, call 307-637-6525. In Oct. 31 edition's story, "Burns Senior...

Piper Perez, daughter of Kenny and Lisa Perez, and older sister to Peyton, is a reader. So often is the case when the spotlight shines on a smart and well-educated child, it is books that are found center stage. "I like adventure series," Piper said as a small excited smile escapes her usually mellow face. "I was reading 'The Wolve...

  • Burns News

Sharon Stacy or Janet from the Burns Library|Nov 21, 2013

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you from the Burns Branch Library! Did you know: In a letter to his daughter sent in 1784, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the wild turkey would be a more appropriate national symbol for the newly independent United States than the bald eagle (which had earlier been chosen by the Continental Congress). He argued that the turkey was a much more respectable bird and a symbol of courage. In 2007, President George W. Bush granted a "pardon" to two turkeys, named May...

  • Banner News

    Barb Cross|Nov 21, 2013

Good morning! A beautiful fall day Monday, and for a few following days, but as my weather bug predicted, cold and possible snow for today. Ugh. Thanksgiving is near though so that means less than 30 days until Christmas. Has this month really flown by or what? School wise it has been somewhat less active as far as outside school events. However, with the official start of winter practice this past Monday soon ballgames will be heavily scheduled once more. Wrestling for the junior high has been...

  • Albin News

    Monte Lerwick and Charlene Smith|Nov 21, 2013

Pretty nice weather for the end of November. The geese were flying over towards the south on Monday, so I guess this, too, will pass. Word on the street is this will be a harsh winter. Maybe I could lasso one of those birds and camp down south for a while? Thanksgiving is upon us, a week from today as a matter of fact. Make sure you remember all the blessings in your life. You might not want to say all of them before eating Thursday, due to the food getting cold. But remember, even if you can...

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 21, 2013

Pine Bluffs third grade teachers Wanda Theobald and Michelle McCormack have brought many classes to the Pine Bluffs council meeting to get a taste of the process of local government. On Monday evening, however, the class showed up to a room filled with concerned citizens. The evening's agenda had a few hot topics unusual for the council's agenda. The students still came away with an idea of what a town council does. One student said, "They listen to the people and talk to them about what they...
