  • Gator's Travelyn Motel object of armed robbery

    Polly Taylor|Dec 3, 2015

Well, it looks like the Grinch has cloned himself, but in a female version, and the pair decided to make some local businesses targets of their less than honorable intentions over the Thanksgiving weekend. Very early Saturday morning, Nov. 28, around 1:45 a.m., a caucasian male and female held up the office of Gator's Travelyn Motel, and made away with an undisclosed amount of cash. They originally walked into the office together and spoke to the man who was on duty, and then the alleged male...

  • Friendly people all over northeast Wyoming

    Bill Sniffin|Dec 3, 2015

It is amazing the difference a year can make in Wyoming when it comes to the economy. In November 2014, I spent some quality time in Douglas, which was the hottest boomtown in the state at that time. Drilling rigs were all over the place and the RV parks were so full the city opened up the normally just summer-only RV sites at the State Fairgrounds to accommodate all the oil field workers. The oil boom, thanks to a technology called fracking, had arrived in Converse County with a bang. New...

Good morning Harrisburg, Banner County and friends near and far. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family, friends, and food. We sure did, and enjoyed visiting and cooking/baking with each other. We also missed the family that were not with us. Another fun time this past weekend was the baby shower for Keah Cross. Everyone enjoyed themselves decorating onesies for the expected little one, and guests ranged from tiny infants to an aunt who was 100 years young. Now that is pretty...

  • Tomb hiding in plain sight

    Dec 3, 2015

Could it be that King Tut’s tomb was a handy, make-shift burial chamber when he died suddenly at the age of 19? At least one Egyptologist believes the tomb was actually built for his predecessor, Queen Nefertiti. Archeologist Nicholas Reeves is out to prove that Nefertiti’s remains lie behind a wall in Tut’s burial chamber. She died more than 3,300 years ago and her body has never been found. Apparently, Reeves suggests, Tut was too young when he died to have built his own tomb, so they put him in an outer compartment of a much more...

  • From the Kitchen of Crabbie Abner

    Dec 3, 2015

Wow! What a Thanksgiving. Hope everyone gobbled till they wobbled. I had a quiet day, being a bachelor crab, but still managed to roast a turkey and cook all of the traditional side dishes I remembered from my childhood, while getting my fill of holiday movies on television. I only ate one meal Thanksgiving Day, since it was also a tradition in my family to more or less fast until the big meal was put on the table. Afterward, we were too stuffed to even think about having another meal later in the day. Anyway, also as per tradition, I spent...

Todd Sweeter, Pine Bluffs High School|Dec 3, 2015

A quarter of the year has come and gone, and it is time to share some feedback on the 4-day week. We started by asking the staff and administration - What are the positive things that are happening in LCSD#2 since the start of the 4- day week? While there are always a few exceptions, the overwhelming response is that it has been great. So far, it has fulfilled all of the expectations and the reasons for wanting to go to a 4-day week. It is keeping the teachers in the classrooms and providing students with positive interventions and enrichment...

  • Albin, Burns High students learn from each other

    Jimmie Earls|Dec 3, 2015

Learning from a science textbook is par for the course in elementary school, but when you gain practical, real-world experience in a lab setting with older peers as your instructors, then the textbook suddenly comes to life and learning takes on a new perspective. Just ask the Albin Elementary School students who got a visit from some Burns Jr/Sr High School students on Nov. 24 as part of Science Day at AES. "My favorite part was the marshmallow challenge," said sixth-grader Jackson Kirkbride. "...
