Speed and energy pushed the Pawnee Coyotes to wins last week against the Briggsdale Falcons and Weldon Valley Warriors. On Tuesday, Pawnee posted a 80-44 victory over Briggsdale, and followed that up with a 77-36 performance against Weldon Valley.

“We got off to a fast start, scoring 23 points in the first quarter,” said Pawnee coach Tim Brunelle of Tuesday’s game. “Our defensive pressure was good, and we shot the ball well. I just really liked our intensity throughout the game. We struggled a little in the second quarter, but the effort was there. If we will play with this energy every game, we can be a pretty good team.”

David Martin had the hot hand, putting 27 points on the board. Brye Brunelle earned a double-double with 20 points and 13 board. He also recorded five assists and six steals. Scott Klinginsmith tacked on10 points and got away with five steals.

“Again, I was very pleased with our energy defensively, and our ball movement and shooting offensively,” Coach Brunelle said of his squad’s game against the Warriors. “We had eight different players score, and were making the extra pass to get better shots. We had a good combination of inside and outside scoring.”

Top scorers on the night were Brye Brunelle with 25, Martin with 17 and Kelby Hahn with 12.

“It was a good week in that I feel that we picked our level of play up to what we expect from ourselves,” the coach added. “I am looking forward to a good week of practice and a big game against the league leaders, Fleming on Friday night at NJC. Then a big re-match on the road Saturday at Peetz.”
