Hockersmith takes the stage in 'Rent'


Opening tomorrow April 5, at the Historic Atlas Theatre in Cheyenne, The Cheyenne Little Theater Players will present The Tony Award Winning Musical “Rent” featuring local resident and actor Matt Hockersmith.

The original production of Rent opened on Broadway in New York, NY in 1996, winning the Pulitzer Prize for best drama and the Tony Award for best musical. The production ran on Broadway for twelve years, closing in September 2008.

The musical was written by Jonathan Larson and directed by Michael Greif. The story unfolds in the East Village in New York City. Young artists and actors search for their dreams and attempt to make a living, while staying true to their bohemian ideals. Rent examines modern issues such as homosexual relationships, AIDS and drug addiction.

Pine Bluffs resident and actor, Matt Hockersmith, will portray the role of Mark Cohen, a filmmaker who narrates the story.

“I have always wanted to study the role of Mark. It is a privilege to be working with the Cheyenne Little Theater and such a talented group of artists” Hockersmith said.

All performances will be held at the Historic Atlas Theater, 211 West Lincolnway in Cheyenne, On April 5 and 6, 11 through 13, and 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees are April 7, 14, and 21, at 2 p.m.
