Burns girls win regionals, boys third; Pine Bluffs teams 6th

How the Ladies fared

The Burns girls track and field squad took first place at the 2A East Regional meet in Gillette last weekend, setting them up for action at the state meet in Casper this weekend. The Lady Broncs earned 151 points for the win. The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets garnered 69 points for their performances, which was good enough for sixth place overall.

Top finishers for Burns included sophomore Ashley Turner in the sprints. She took first in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and second in the 400.

Their 4x100 relay team took third in 54.85. Team members are Maddie Cowles, Mardi O’Neal, Jessica Malm and Turner. The 4x800 relay team also placed third with a time of 10:58.80. Members of that team are Mckenzie Ward, Celeste Morales, Winnie Hunter and Jessica Phillippe.

Field event results had a familiar look to them with Shana Wilcoxson taking first in the pole vault, long jump and triple jump. She was second to her teammate Alex McCart’s first place finish in the high jump.

Pine Bluffs’ junior Austin Asay showed her consistency with a first place finish in the 3200m run and by taking second in the 1600m. The school’s 4x100 relay team burned up the track to take second place with a time of 54.76. Team members are Jesi Zitek, Brooke Darden, Ariane Johnson and Sam Hanson.

Hanson took to the air for a third place finish in the pole vault. She successfully cleared the 8 foot mark in the her effort.

Andrea Baker continued her effort to improve and land a state title in the throwing events. She took fourth in the discus and fifth in shot put.
