Commissioners approve permits for CFD

Nestled in between five other consent agenda items, the Laramie County Commissioners pushed the summer closer to Cheyenne Frontier Days by approving a 24-hour catering alcohol permit for the Outlaw Saloon and ten malt beverage permits for the Wyoming Campground at their meeting June 18.

The commissioners moved on to accept a grant agreement with the Wyoming Business Council for the Niobrara Energy Park project, which had amended the number of jobs the project would ad to the community.

In other business, the commissioners accepted a Memorandum of Understanding with Dr. Stephanie Erlich to allow her to use the Laramie County Coroner facilities periodically for forensic examinations. The county will charge Erlich $50 for each use plus the costs of supplies.

Public Works director Don Beard was excited to tell the commissioners the bid for the chip seal project was lower than expected. Beard explained he could add some projects with the residual revenue saved.

One of the ongoing projects for the commissioners came one vote closer to completion. All commissioners agreed to award the bid to Mechanical Systems of Cheyenne to complete the Williams Street drainage project. Chairman Troy Thompson said he could “start praying for rain again” and was happy to see the much needed drainage being finished.

County attorney Mark Voss reviewed with the commissioners an old moratorium for the North Cheyenne Addition subdivision that was placed in 1979. Planning director Gary Kranse explained he thought it might have been placed on the subdivision to ease water and sewer issues, but it was no longer needed. The commissioners agreed and approved the release, repeal and lifting of the moratorium.

After adjourning, Thompson welcomed any county employee to join the commissioners in an open discussion about the pay schedule, raises and hiring plans, or anything else they would like to discuss. Many county employees were there for the unofficial meeting. Thompson hoped the meeting would lead to more open communication and better understanding of the administrative decisions the commissioners have made.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 2 at 3:30 pm.
